INTRODUCTION 1.1 General This document comprises the Hardware User’s Manual for the A C P e - 1 (AIM’s Carrier for PCI Express with 1 PMC slot). The document covers the hardware installation and the technical data of the ACPe-1. For Hardware information about the plugged PMC modules and programming information please refer to the according PMC documents.
– Installation – Section 2 describes the steps required to plug a PMC module onto ACPe-1 and install it into a PCI- Slot in a PC system – FEATURES of the ACPe-1 – Section 3...
PC cover to ground yourself and discharge any static electricity during the installation work. The following instructions tell how to plug the PMC modules on the ACPe-1 Carrier Board and install itself into your PC. Please follow the instructions carefully, to avoid any damage on the device.
PMC Front panel Filler. This Filler has to be removed before plugging the PMC into its slot. The picture on the right side shows as a sample the front panel view of AIM’s plugged in AMCX1553-4 PMC module. Instead of this, any third party standard PMC module might be plugged, which is in conformance to the IEEE PCI Mezzanine Specification [I.2].

Connector J201 and J202 include the general signals for 32 bit PCIbus. For special test purposes, the Rear-IO signals on connector J302 of the plugged in PMC module are routed to a 64bit ribbon cable connector J301 on the rear area of the ACPe-1 module and is not available in default configuration.
Side 2 Figure 2-3 PMC Keying Codes By default the ACPe-1 is configured as a +3.3V PMC site and therefore, it works with +3.3V or universal PMC types. For +5.0V PMC modules, a specific coded ACPe-1 Carrier board is available (ordering option).
ACPe-1 3 FEATURES OF ACPE-1 The principle structure of the ACPe-1 Carrier Module is shown in Figure 3-1. The carrier includes a PCI Express to PCI Bridge device, which performs the transactions between the PCI Express bus from host side to the 32bit PCI bus for PMC mezzanine card.
ACPe-1 3.2 PCI Express to PCI Bridge The Main part of the ACPe-1 is the transparent PCI Express to PCI Bridge device. The primary side of the bridge has a one lane PCI Express upstream port that can handle standard PCI Express interfaces.
The four Interrupt lines INTA# to INTD# of the secondary side of the PCIe-to-PCI Bridge are connected to the PMC J201 connector, as shown in the following block diagram: B1-INTA# Host-INTA# B1-INTB# Host-INTB# B1-INTC# Host-INTC# B1-INTD# Host-INTD# PMC-Slot Figure 3-2 Block diagram of IRQ routing ACPe-1 Hardware Manual...
