    (6) months. All sheet metal cladding applied to the VersaTube frame are attached with self drilling screws with a rubber washer. These screws produce small shavings when drilling through the cladding. If the shavings are al- lowed to sit on the sheet metal for an extended period, rust spots will form and promote deterioration.

    Suggested Foundation The VersaTube garage is designed to be placed on a foundation that is level side-to-side and front-to-back. A minimum of a 4” thick slab with 12” x 12” turn down footers is necessary. Check with your local building official if there is a necessary footing depth.

    Frame Assembly STEP 3: ROOF WALL ASSEMBLY On the ground, assemble (1) peak, (2) rafters, (2) side posts, and (2) height extensions. Before fastening the joints with screws take a measurement across the top and bottom of the assembly as shown. This outside measurement is the 24’. Keep the joint spacing on both sides of the assembly equal.

    Frame Assembly STEP 5: MARK FOR ROOF HAT CHANNEL Once the frames are all assembled, stack them together ensuring the top and sides are all flush. Starting from the corner of the BK-40 Eave Corner, make a mark 1” in. Make (4) more marks, 38 1/2” apart. Mark all the frames at once by using a piece of the roof Hat Channel for a straight edge.

    Frame Assembly STEP 7: COLLAR TIE TO FRAME ASSEMBLY The collar tie must be centered in the frame. Take a measurement from the end of the side post to the edge of the collar tie bracket on both ends of the collar tie. Adjust the collar tie side to side until the measurements are equal. The End Ties will be 18”...
  • Page 11 Frame Assembly STEP 8: ASSEMBLING WEB BRACING (continued) Place one of the 75” web brace (1.5SQ-WEB-7500) ends on top of the Web Bracket tab and the other brace end on the bot- tom of the tab. Join the parts with a 3/8” x 1 1/4” hex bolt, lock washer and hex nut. Do not tighten at this time. It may be necessary to lift the frame to insert bolt.

    Frame Assembly STEP 9: INSTALLING FRAMES TO BASE RAILS at least This assembly will require two people. Start at one end of the structure and place an empty frame assembly (one with no truss brace) on the first base rail vertical pins. Place bottom of side posts on base rail pins at an angle. Raise frame section and drop it onto pins at the same time on both sides of the structure.

    Frame Assembly STEP 11: INSTALLING BACK BASE RAILS Layout the Base Rail components as shown in the illustration of your building size.     Frame Assembly STEP 13: INSTALLING FRONT BASE RAILS AND VERTICALS Join the Base Rail tubes and (L) or (U) connectors as shown. The Base Rails are all 2” square tubes. See illustration for tube length. Measure and mark the location for the base rails and anchor the L & U connectors with expansion bolts as you did the side base rails.

    Frame Assembly STEP 14: ASSEMBLE SIDE WALK DOOR FRAME The Door Frame consists of a Header Tube 2” x 3” x 45 3/4” long (7100-4575) and a Door Jamb 2” x 3” x 81 3/4” (7100- 8175). These combine with the side post to create the walk door frame. The door will open to the outside of the building. The first step is to choose the frame bay (opening) where the door will be installed.

    Frame Assembly STEP 14: INSTALLING ROOF HAT CHANNEL All Roof Hat Channel pieces are 8’ long (7700-09600). Use the marks made when the frames were stacked to add a string line to ensure a straight install. Before installing the hat channel purlins on the roof, brace one end wall of the building. Make sure that the end wall is plumb and attach wood or metal angle braces from the end wall side posts to the lower portion of the next frame section side posts.

    Installing Sheet Metal and Trim STEP 2: INSTALLING BACK WALL SHEET METAL PANELS After the panels are installed, add piece of 10’ J-Trim to the edges of the frame. Screw the J-Trim to the panels approximately every 36”. Trim the J-Trim to stop just past the eave corner (approx. 9’-2”). Repeat on the opposite edge. Back Wall panels are sized to overlap over the center vertical frame members (12’1”).

    Installing Sheet Metal and Trim STEP 3: INSTALLING GARAGE DOOR TRIM Trim the door jamb trim for the door header first. There are (2) 9’ pieces provided for the header and (1) 16’ piece that will be cut in half for the 2 verticals. A series of cuts on each end will need to be made to prepare the door trim to fit the door header.

    Installing Sheet Metal and Trim STEP 4: INSTALLING FRONT WALL SHEET METAL PANELS After the panels are installed, add piece of 10’ J-Trim to the edges of the frame.     Installing Sheet Metal and Trim STEP 5: INSTALLING CORNER J-TRIM Before installing the side metal, add a piece of J-trim to the side walls at the corners. The J-trim will align with the end wall J- trim, 1” in front of the frame. Once in place, screw the J-Trim to the frame with pan screws approximately every 36”. Trim the J-Trim to stop at the top of the panels (about 9’2”).

    Installing Sheet Metal and Trim STEP 8: INSTALLING ROOF SHEET METAL PANELS Two people will be needed to install roof panels. Before installing each roof panel, place an Inside Closure 3” from the lower end. The closure will go on the under side of each panel. As panels are installed, check to see that the ends of the closure fit together.

Line the panel up at the bottom with the previous panel and attach that edge at the top and bottom of the panel. Take the same measurements as on the first panel from the panel edge to the next frame section.

    Installing Sheet Metal and Trim STEP 9: INSTALLING GABLE TRIM Gable Trim will finish the joints at the gable ends of the building between the roof and the end wall panels. The lower ends of the gable trim extensions should be set flush with the lower edge of the roof panels. Make a vertical mark where the 14’ gable trim meets the peak in the middle of the end wall.

Use your level to set the track level and measure the diagonals from the back of one track to the front of the other. The diagonals must be equal.
