IV. Installation
The PM 3210
oscilloscope is despatched complete with
the following accessories which are stowed, for transit,
in the packing spaces in front of and behind the
instrument. These items are:
1. two BNC-4 mm adapters PM 9051
2. agreen filter
3, an instruction manual
4. aviewing hood PM 9366
5. atrimming rod
6. acoaxial cable PM 9074
On receipt, remove these accessories and the instrument
from the carton and examine them to ascertain whether
any damage has been sustained in transit.
Remove the cover by means of the two screws with
which the handle is attached and the two screws near
the rear panel. Check that all printed-circuit cards are
fully inserted and visually inspect the interior.
Replace the cover.
A. MAINS ADJUSTMENTS AND FUSES
Before switching on, the instrument should be adjusted
to the local mains voltage by means of the voltage
adapter inside the instrument.
Provision is made for selecting 110 V, 125 V, 145 V,
200 V, 220 V and 245 V. The voltage selected is
displayed through an aperture at the right-hand side of
the instrument. The mains-voltage adapter can be set
after removal of the cover.
The fuse-holder on the rear panel normally carries a
1 A delayed-action mains fuse but if the instrument is to
be connected to a mains voltage of less than 200 V, a
2 A fuse should be fitted.

A thermal cut-out is incorporated as an integral part of
the mains transformer to prevent excessive over-heating
in the case of a prolonged short circuit.
B. EARTHING
In the interests of safety, the instrument should be
earthed via the earth terminal = on the front panel,
the earth screw =
on the rear panel, or via the mains
flex if this has a plug with an earth connection.
NOTE: Double-earthing must be avoided as this may
cause hum on the trace.
C. SWITCHING ON
The instrument is switched on by means of the POWER
ON switch. The white pilot lamp illuminates to indicate
this condition when the mains are connected and the
POWER ON switch is in the up" position.
The instrument can be used in horizontal, vertical or
tilted position, but care should be taken that a free air
circulation is not impeded. For temperature conditions
refer to chapter II.
WARNING:
This instrument generates high voltages and should not be
operated with the covers removed. The mains plug should
be removed before attempting any maintenance work,
and any relevant high voltage points discharged.
Never switch on the instrument when any printed-circuit
card has been removed and never remove any printed-
circuit card when the instrument ts switched on.
