Dr iv ing
- If t here is a power fa il ure, the parking brake
will not set if it is released, and it will not
release if it is set ¢ .&.. See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fa-
cility for assistance.
Starting
from
a stop
Vario us convenience and safety functions may be
available when the vehicle begins driving, de-
pending on vehicle equipment .
Starting on hills with the parking brake set
Requirement: the driver's door must be closed.
.,. To start dr iving comf ortab ly when on a hill, set
t he parking brake and begin dr iving as usual.
The brak ing f orce of the parking brake does not
release automatically until t he wheels build up
enough dr iving force .
Starting on hills with hill hold assist
Hill hold assist makes it easier to start on hills.
Requi rement : the driver's door must be closed
and the engine must be running .
.,. To activate hill hold assist, press and hold the
brake pedal for several seconds. The vehicle
must be in an uph ill direction of travel.
After releasing the brake pedal, the braking pow-
er is ma intained for a brief moment ¢

to pre-
vent the vehicle from rolling back when starting.
Dur ing th is ti me, you can easily begin to move
your vehicle.

WARNING
Applies to: ve hicles wit h hill hold ass ist
- If
you do not begin dr iving immediately or
the engine sta ll s after releasing t he brake
pedal, your vehicle may begin to roll back-
ward. Press the brake pedal or set the park-
ing brake immed iately.
- The intelligent tec hnology of hill hold assist
cannot overcome the lim itations imposed by
natura l physical laws. The increased comfo rt
off ered by hill hold assist should not cause
you to
take
safety risks.

- Hill hold assist cannot hold t he vehicle in
place on all hills (for examp le, if the ground
is sli ppery or icy).
- To reduce the risk of an accident, always
make sure the vehicle is situated safely
w hile stationary .
Driving
offroad
General information
Applies to: vehicles with offroad mode
The elect ronic stabiliz at ion contr ol (ESC) f unc-
tions we re enhanced for driving off road. ESC off -
road mode can be activated in driving sit uat ions
in which a whee l lock or a differential lock func-
tion is needed ¢ page 93. The hill descent as-
sist is also available , which automatically brakes
the vehicle and main t ains a constant speed as a
result ¢ pag e

However, your Audi is not an offroad vehicle.
Only drive in terrain that is suitable for the vehi-
cle and your driving ability. Never take any un-
necessary risks!
After driving offroad
- After driving off road, remove branches and
other debris from the radiator grille, under-
body, and wheels. Look especially fo r fo reign
objects (such as stones) that may be st uck in
the t ire t read.
- Clean the vehicle body and underbody and in-
spect the vehicle for possible damage.
- Clean the windows, headlights, tail li ghts and
the li cense plate if they are dirty .
- Perform a brake test (especially after driving
throug h water) .

- Be especially aware and at t entive whe n driv-
ing under diff icult conditions . Vehicl e dam-
age and inj uries may occur wh en driving at
excessively high speeds or with incorrect
driving man euvers.
- Always adju st your speed and drivi ng style
to the roads, t err ain, t raffi c and weat her
condition s. Drive especially slowly if t here is
low visibili ty when offroad .
