RS-11 DYNAMIC BRAKE
HATCH REPLACEMENT
Thank you for purchasing your ALCo RS-11 from Rapido Trains, Inc. As a result of a factory error,
some of these units were incorrectly shipped with a blank plate in place of the proper dynamic brake
hatch on the roof. Please follow these simple instructions to replace your hatch safely.
Step 1 - Remove the 2 screws
for the coupler boxes and then
remove the coupler boxes.
Step 2 - Remove the 4 screws
that secure the body shell to the
chassis. It is recommended to rest the model on
its roof in a foam cradle (or at least a very soft surface) for this step.
Step 3 - Separate the body from the chassis. There is tight clearance (especially in the
cab area), so make sure to pull the shell straight up from the chassis. Do not twist or tilt.
IMPORTANT - There are multiple wires connected
between the chassis and the motherboard for the
various lights of your RS-11. Please refer to the back
of this page for what the various connections are.
Step 4 - Looking from the inside of the body shell,
note the 4 clips securing the dynamic brake hatch to
the long hood filter area. Disengage these carefully
and remove the erroneous dynamic brake hatch.
Use caution near the contact pins on the lighting
circuit board.
Step 5 - Insert the new dynamic brake hatch. Ensure
not to apply too much pressure to the long hood in
order to avoid damage.
Step 6 - Replace the body shell onto the chassis, re-
secure the 4 body screws, then reinstall the couplers
with the 2 remaining screws.
That's it. You're done!
A couple of key things to note. Don't rush and don't force anything - this may just lead to sadness
and disappointment. Also, do not under any circumstances try to remove the filter section of
the body shell. Because of the construction of the filter section, it is very susceptible to breaking if
you try to remove it (and we don't have any replacements). You ONLY need to remove the dynamic
brake panel.
