I’ve tried various tapes on both A and B sides. It makes a slight sound when play is pushed a clicking sound here n there. Cleaned the parts that’s recommended. It’s old hasn’t been used in years. I’m suspecting the belts.

Common issues for a Sony TC-W421 tape deck making clicking sounds during playback may include:
1. Dirty or Magnetized Heads: This can affect playback quality. - Solution: Clean or demagnetize the heads.
2. Dirty Capstan or Pinch Roller: This can cause wow, flutter, or dropout, potentially creating clicking sounds. - Solution: Clean the capstan and pinch roller.
3. Tape Compartment Not Fully Closed: This may prevent proper operation. - Solution: Ensure the tape compartment is fully closed.
These maintenance tasks can help resolve clicking or other playback issues.
