  • Page 15: Icm Button

Component Description ICM Button When the G3 Vision system is equipped with an in-car microphone, the microphone is not on all the time. The in-car microphone (ICM) button on the front panel of the DVR is used to turn the in-car microphone (when equipped) on when desired and turn it back off when the officer is finished with it.
  • Page 16: Rec Button

Component Description REC Button The REC button has one main function, to manually initiate recording. This remains true, even if the system is set up for auto record. With auto record, any one of several events can automatically trigger the record function. This does not change the fact that the officer may still manually initiate the record function, if they desire.
  • Page 17: (Stop) Button

Component Description ■ (Stop) Button The ■ button performs several different functions, depending on the current operating state of the G3 Vision system. • The primary function of the ■ button is to stop recording. This is the only method for manually stopping the record function, even if the emergency lights, siren or crash detect sensor initiated the record function.

  • Page 57: System Operation

Certainly one of the officer’s goals is to create high quality recordings that will provide a complete account of their stops, thus reducing the time they spend in court. Kustom Signals, Inc. shares this goal and has used it as a driving force behind the design of the G3 Vision system.
  • Page 58 System Operation One buffer is set to the primary camera, another is set for the secondary camera, and the third is set to be a “rover.” That means that this buffer is attached to whichever camera is currently being recorded in single camera recording mode. Once again, the goal here is reducing the amount of time spent in court.
  • Page 59: Operational Functions

Kustom Signals, Inc. has included a daily log sheet for disc transactions in Appendix A at the end of this manual for each department to use, if they desire.
  • Page 60: Automatic Recording

System Operation Automatic Recording The G3 Vision system may be configured to record automatically when the emergency lights or siren are turned on, or when the wireless microphone is activated. Refer to the Digital ® Eyewitness G3 Vision In-Car Video System Installation Manual (Part Number 006-0916-00) for information on how these features are enabled.
  • Page 61: Simultaneous Camera Record Activation

System Operation Simultaneous Camera Record Activation All G3 Vision systems have the capability for simultaneous recording. This means that once configured for simultaneous recording in the SIMULTANEOUS CAM SETTINGS menu, the G3 Vision can record video from more than one camera simultaneously. There will be an indication on the display with the number of cameras that are simultaneously recording, followed by a sun symbol.
  • Page 62: Beep Tones/Audible Feedback

System Operation Beep Tones/Audible Feedback In its default configuration when the G3 Vision system is first turned on, a single beep will be heard from the monitor. Beeps are provided to indicate that the system has received a record command or when a low voltage condition exists. These beeps are intended to assist the officer in knowing the status of the G3 Vision system without having to look at the DVR unit or monitor.
  • Page 63: Cameras

System Operation Cameras The G3 Vision system can be equipped with up to four (4) cameras, in any combination of color zoom cameras and color non-zoom cameras. One of the color zoom cameras is typically the primary camera and will face forward. The secondary camera is typically a color non-zoom camera and typically faces the rear seat.
  • Page 64: Back Light Compensation

System Operation Back Light Compensation Back Light Compensation is a feature that can improve the quality of recordings that are made when the camera is facing into the sunrise or sunset. In this setting, the camera reacts to the predominantly bright scene and closes its iris. The result is a nice picture of the sun and sky, but often the important parts of the scene (the officer and the stopped car) are too dark.

  • Page 66: Clearcomm Transmitter Charging Requirements

A desktop A/C charger is provided for each transmitter that is provided with the G3 Vision system. Kustom Signals, Inc. recommends that the desktop charger be used for regular charging of the battery. However, if the circumstance arises where the battery requires charging away from the station, the system base in the vehicle may also be used for charging, as long as the G3 Vision system is turned on.
  • Page 67: Clearcomm Transmitter Operation

System Operation Kustom Signals, Inc. also recommends that each department develop a battery replacement plan, based on usage that anticipates battery replacement as they approach 500 charge cycles. As the battery approaches the end of its life, the amount of talk-time per charge is reduced significantly.

System Operation When audio is activated, the officer will feel a short “buzz” from the internal vibrator motor, and the LED’s will change to indicate the active mode (see LED legend below). To mute the audio, slide the switch again – this will result in two short buzzes from the internal vibrator. When the officer stops a recording by pressing the STOP button on the front of the DVR, the transmitter will automatically return to the standby mode.
  • Page 69 System Operation In normal use at a typical traffic stop (i.e. within 100 feet or so), it does not matter which direction the transmitter is pointing as long as the front of the transmitter is not placed against the user’s body. The transmitter performs well at distances much greater than that, but in general, the performance of any transmitter is best when the transmitter has a clear “line-of-site”...
