Adjustments
8. Remove the cotter pins and pins from
the hitch clevises (figure 39). Turn each
clevis an equal number of turns in the
same direction. Shorten the hitch rods
to raise the front of the mower, lengthen
the hitch rods to lower the front of the
mower.
9. Replace pins through clevises and rear
suspension arm and recheck measure¬
ments. When the mower is level replace
and spread cotter pins, and tighten nuts
against clevises.

NOTE
The purpose of levelling the mower is
to achieve an even grass cut. Remem-
her that improper or unequal tire
pressure will cause an uneven cut.
Also, different terrains may require
different side-to-side adjustments. If
you don't achieve an even cut with the
mower level, try raising one side slight¬
ly higher.
WARNING
To avoid accidental starting during
levelling check, remove the ingition
key and remove both spark plug wires
and fasten them away from the spark
plugs.
1. Tractor and mower must be on a level
surface. The tires must point straight
forward.
2. Place the mower in highest cutting
position and place the mower lift lever
in the lowered position.
3. Disengage the mower clutch and posi¬
tion the blades so they are pointing side-
to-side.
4. Engage the clutch.
5. Measure the distance from the outside
tips of the blade to the ground. If the
difference between the two measure¬
ments is less than 1 / 8 inch (3 mm), the
mower is level. If not, proceed with next
steps.
NOTE
It will be easier to make adjustments
with mower in lowest cutting position.
To recheck measurements, reposition
mower in highest cutting position.
6. Loosen the capscrew (A, figure 40) and
flange nut (B) in the right mower hitch.
