Formatting
New
Disks
New
hard
disks
must
be formatted before
you
can use them
for recording.
Formatting
prepares
a disk for storing
digital
audio
data.
External
disks
and
the internal
hard
disk are
identified
by
their
SCSI
ID.
So
make
sure
that
you
know
the
SCSI ID
of the disk
you want
to
format before
starting
this
procedure.
To
format a
disk:
1
)
Press
the
SUB-MENU
toy.
Its
indicator will
flash.

2) Press
the
FORMAT
key.

will
appear
on
the display;
3)
Use
the jog wheel,
shuttle control, or
number keypad
to
select
a
SCSI
ID.
The
selected
SCSI ID
should correspond with
that
of
the disk
that
you want
to
format.
Note:
If
you have a
number
of
disks connected,
make
sure
that
you
select the
corr
ect
SCSI
ID.
4)
Press
the
STORE/ENT
key.
ErRSE
will
appear
on
the display.
5)
Use
the Jog
wheel
or
shuttle
control to select

Press
the
STORE/ENT
key.
The
message SUrE
PP
will
appear
on
the display.
Important:
If
you
are reformatting
a
disk,
please note
that
all
existing
data
will
be erased
-
permanently.
Back
up any
data
that
you want
to
keep
before reformatting.
7)
If
you
are
sure,
press the
STORE/ENT key again
to
start
formatting.
While
formatting
is
in
progress,
Ear
will flash
on
the display.
Disk
formatting
does
take time.
The
larger the disk, the
longer
it
takes.
When
disk formatting
is
complete,
SUCCESS
will
appear
on
the display.
8)
Press
the
STORE/ENT
key.
The SCSI
IDs of connected
disks will
appear
on
the display as the
DR4
quickly
checks them.
The
formatted disk
is
now
ready
for
recording.
