EMS
(Expanded Memory Specifications) A standardized method
(Lotus-Intel-Microsoft) of reconfiguring systems to use up to 32MB of expanded
memory.
end-of-file mark
A control character that appears at the end of some MS-DOS
files, usually
AZ.
enhanced RGB monitor
A monitor with a display resolution of 640 dots
(horizontal) by 350 lines (vertical) or better. It can display up to 16 colors at a time
from a palette of 64 colors. See also

error message
An'on-screen message that MS-DOS or a software program
displays when a problem occurs with the hardware or software.
execute
To perform a SOFTWARE operation or command. A command is
usually initiated by typing its name and pressing the
I-<"Enterl
key (also referred to
as

in other applications).
expanded memory
A method by which a 64 KB segment of RAM, located in
the upper memory area, is used to swap information to and from a specially
configured area of RAM located above 1MB expanded memory. Information can be
worked on, and then another 64 KB block is swapped, or substituted.
extended memory
A method of allowing MS-DOS to access memory above 1
MB. Works differently from expanded memory. RAM configured as expanded
memory cannot be used as extended memory.
extension
An optional name added onto the end of a filename or subdirectory
name. It can have up to three characters and is separated from the filename or
subdirectory name by a period.
external command
An MS-DOS command that must be read from MS-DOS
disk in order to run.
It
is not resident in the computer's memory.
