Checking the Spark Plug

WARNING: Unintentional sparking can result in fire
or electric shock. Unintentional start up can result in
entanglement, traumatic amputation, or laceration.
When you test for spark:
• Use an approved spark plug tester.
• DO NOT check for spark with the spark plug removed.
NOTICE: Spark plugs have different heat ranges.
It is important that the correct spark plug is used,
otherwise engine damage can occur. Replace the spark
plug with the same type or an equivalent one.

Checking the Spark Plug Gap
Use a spark plug feeler gauge (A) to check the gap between
the two electrodes. When the gap is correct, the gauge will
drag slightly as you pull it through the gap.
To adjust the spark plug gap, use a spark plug gauge and
gently bend the curved electrode. Make sure that you do
not touch the center electrode or the porcelain.
