Operating Instructions
Before operating the unit, please read this manual thoroughly
and retain it for future reference.
Owner's Record
The model number is located on the bottom exterior and
serial number is on the bottom. Record the serial number in
the space provided below. Refer to these numbers whenever
you cail upon your Sony dealer regarding this product.

* Dual alarm FM/AM 2-band radio combined with an electric
digital alarm clock and sleep timer.
* Choice of awakening to radio alarm, buzzer alarm, or dual
alarm: Alarm A (radio) and B (buzzer).
* 24-hour alarm preset system automatically turns alarm on
at same time each day.
* DREAM BAR SNOOZE/SLEEP OFF (North American
model), REPEAT ALARM/SLEEP OFF (Australian model),
operable with a feather-light touch, offers functions, snooze
alarm and sleep timer turn off.
* You can preset 3 FM stations for easier tuning (only tor
ICF-C730).
© For private listening, this radio is equipped with an
@arphone jack.
*Fail-safe earphone jack: The alarm is heard through the
speaker when an earphone is connected.
*You can be awakened by a manuaily tuned station (wake
up station) even though you fell asleep to a preset station
the previous night (only for ICF-C730).
| This instruction manual covers (CF-C710 and ICF-C730. The ICF-
| C790 has preset function for easier tuning. When differences
occur, they are clearty described in the appropriate sections.
The illustrations used in this manual are of the ICF-C730.
Troubleshooting
Should any problem occur with the unit, make the following simple
checks to determine whether or not servicing is required.
It the problem persists, consult the nearest Sony dealer.
'The clock does not show the correct time.
There has been an electrical power interruption.
'The radio or buzzer alarm sound does not come on at the preset
ume.
Check the followings:
'Is the current time correctly set?
Check the AM/PM indication
* Is the alarm time correctly set?
Check the AM/PM indication.
«Ia the function selector switch set correctly?
For radio alarm: set tc SINGLE ALARM [A|RADIO)
For buzzer alarm: set to SINGLE ALARM [/BUZZERI.
For dual alarm: set to DUAL ALARM
[AJRADIOIBIBUZZER}.
+ For radio alarm, is the desired station tuned in?
ls the VOL control edjusted correctly?
It it is down completely, the alarm sound wiil not be heard. Be
sure to turn up the volume.

Precautions
* Operate the unit only on 120 V AC, 60 Hz
240 V AC, 50 Hz (Australian model}.
¢ The nameplate indicating voltage, etc. is located on the
bottom exterior.
* Disconnect the cord by grasping the plug. Never pull it by
the cord.
* Do not leave the unit in a location near a heat source such
as a radiator or airduct, or in a place subject to direct
sunlight, excessive dust, mechanical vibration, or shock,
* Allow adequate air circulation to prevent internal heat build-
up. Do not place the unit on a surface (a rug, a blanket
etc.) or near materials (a curtain) which might block the
ventilation holes.
* Should any liquid or solid object fall into the unit, unplug
the unit and have it checked by qualified personnel before
operating it further.
* When the casing becomes soiled, clean it with a soft cloth
dampened with a mild detergent solution. Never use
abrasive cleansers or chemical solvents, as they may mar
the casing.
