Preparation for Installation on Flush Floor Installation of Sukup 5K Commercial Paddle Sweep requires pre-installation of a center sump if used on a flush floor. Fabricate sump frame as shown in Fig. 2. Consult bin pad requirements and qualified engineer for dimensions A through E, which vary with bin size.
  • Page 9 Assembly Instructions Installation Install center sump by fully welding top lip of sump to sump frame. Plug-weld holes in sump to sump frame. Cast sump and frame in concrete. Consider conduit exit direction. Leave void in concrete to allow for conduit. See Figs. 3 and 4. Fig.
  • Page 10 Assembly Instructions See Figs. 5 & 6 for sump bottom flange dimensions and hole patterns depending on sump size. Fig. 5 – Hole Pattern 1 for 16” sump (left) & 24” sump (right) Fig. 6 – Hole Pattern 2 for 16” sump (left) & 24”...

  • Page 16 Assembly Instructions Position center sump over conveyor with center hole at exact center of bin. See Fig. 17. Adjust six (6) supports at bottom of sump to correct height. Staggered holes provide adjustment for level installation on uneven concrete. See Detail A. Remove fasteners from four corners of sump.
  • Page 17 Assembly Instructions Preparing Intermediate Sumps Remove sump top and two pull rod attachment bolts. See Fig. 18. Remove 3/8” hardware from four corners of sump. Loosen two pull-rod carriage bolts but do not remove. Fig. 18 – Preparing intermediate sumps Sumps closest to center sump (one on each side) are independent intermediate sumps.
  • Page 18 Assembly Instructions Place sumps on conveyor according to applicable layout drawing. See Pages 13-15. Conveyor covers should go on top of sump flanges as shown in Fig. 20. Run pull rods through sumps. Connect pull rods end-to-end using coupling shafts provided. Bolts must be parallel to conveyor to avoid interference.
  • Page 19 Assembly Instructions Install a sweep parking stand on each side of center sump. See Fig. 22. Secure each stand to floor with four concrete anchors. Fig. 22 – Attaching sweep stands If sweep will be used with slip-ring for zero-entry operation, install junction box under parking stand on opposite side of sweep’s parked location.

Fig. 29 – Drive housing installation Connect head section to drive housing by inserting pivot tube through slots in drive housing and bolting pivot tube into place.
  • Page 23 Assembly Instructions Attach grain deflector to head section using two 3/8 x 1” bolts and flange nuts. See Fig. 31. Fig. 31 – Attaching grain deflector Attach first body section to head section and inner carrier wheels as shown in front and back views of Fig.
  • Page 24 Assembly Instructions Starting with first rear carrier wheel, turn bottom portion so that alignment tabs marked “1” are aligned. See Fig. 33. Secure with two 1/2” locking bolts. For second wheel, align tabs marked “2”, and so forth. NOTE: These instructions apply to sweeps in bins up to heights listed in Table 1. For extra-tall bins, see next page.
  • Page 25 Assembly Instructions On sweeps in extra-tall bins (See sweep layout Figs. 58, 60, 62, 64, 66 and 68), carrier wheels shown with dashed lines get carrier wheel truck with triangle-shaped tab. See drawing at left in Fig. 34. Those shown with solid lines in sweep layout drawings referenced above get carrier wheel truck with flat edge. See drawing at right in Fig.
  • Page 26 Assembly Instructions Remove two pins from front of pusher(s) and use them to connect pushers and carrier wheels to sweep at locations shown in sweep layout drawings. See Fig. 36. PUSHER PINS Fig. 36 – Attaching pusher(s) Pusher Chain Installation Remove outer chain cover.
  • Page 27 Assembly Instructions If bin exceeds height shown in Table 1, install pusher carrier wheels assembly, EP0653, as shown in Fig. 38. Remove four 3/8” nuts under pusher and use to attach carrier wheel assy. PUSHER CARRIER WHEELS ASSY. Fig. 38 – Attaching pusher carrier wheels assy. Remove rear weight bracket from pushers and attach weights as shown in Fig.
  • Page 28 Assembly Instructions Tie rope to paddle chain and pull paddles through return chamber. Rubber side of paddle must face direction of travel. See Fig. 40. Fig. 40 – Pulling paddles & chain through sweep NOTICE: Chain can become twisted if improperly handled. DO NOT turn over a length of chain by twisting one end.
  • Page 29 Assembly Instructions Prepare speed reducer for installation by attaching torque arm brackets as shown in Fig. 42. Remove four bolts from side flange of reducer. Attach torque arm brackets using 3/8” hardware included in parts sack EP0361. NOTE: Multiple sizes are provided. Use those that fit reducer. Attach with 3/8” fine-thread bolts and lock nuts.
  • Page 30 Assembly Instructions Slip Ring Wiring IMPORTANT: Have a qualified electrician wire power to sweep following local electrical codes. Install slip ring by running leads through conduit with lock and then through pivot via flexible conduit supplied by electrician. If bin has full floor, run flex conduit to junction box under floor as shown in Fig. 44, then to controls outside of bin.
  • Page 31 Assembly Instructions If bin has flush floor, thread center sump plug detection switch into switch adapter as shown in Fig. 46. Ensure flat sides of blade will be parallel with grain flow (as if cutting through). Attach adapter to sump as shown in Fig.
  • Page 32 Assembly Instructions Fig. 47 shows slip ring. Use rings 1 to 3 for pushers and rings 4 to 7 for paddle motor/ground. Fig. 47 – Slip ring Re-install drive housing covers. Remove conduit covers from backside of sweep. Attach rigid conduit for pushers as shown in Fig. 48. Use flexible conduit between rigid conduit and pushers.
  • Page 33 Assembly Instructions Installing Wear Track & Parking Plates On full floors, install wear track and parking plates as shown in Figs. 49-51. Use EP0578 wear track for first ring from center; F3405 for carrier-wheel-only track; EC9257 track for pusher wheels. Use EP0617 galvanized parking plates where carrier wheels will rest.
  • Page 34 DO NOT use hex-head screws. NOTE: Fasteners are not supplied, but are available from Sukup (EH0327 for box of 200 rivets, or EP0350 for sack of 100 self-drilling screws). NOTE: If a carrier wheel will follow same path as a pusher, install only pusher wear track.
