Loopbackinterfaceis used for replacingrouter sID as long as it is activated.When the interfaceis
DOWN, the ID of the router has to be selectedagain which leads to long convergencetime of OSPF.
Therefore,Loopbackinterfaceis generallyrecommendedas the ID of the router.
Loopback interface is a logic and virtual interface on router. Under default conditions, there sno
loopbackinterfaceon router,but it can be createdas re uired.
