2.4.4
If
the JE 1049
is
to
be used
as
a replacement
for an
existing
floppy disk drive controller. then complete
steps
A.
B
and C.
If
not. go to section 2.4.5.
1. Remove the screw that the old
floppy
disk drive
controller is held in with. Save this screw since
it will
be
used later to secure the JEI049 in place.
2. Disconnect the old floppy disk drive controller cable
from
the floppy disk drivels)
it
is connected to.
3. Remove the
.
old floppy disk drive controller from the
slot it is in.
2.4.5 The JEI049 should
have
come
with
its cable already
connected to
it.
Take a look at the cable and refer toF4!ure
4-1. You
will
notice a red or blue stripe on one side or the
cable. This stripe siS!nifies line one
(1).
You will also notice
that between two of tlle connectors. the cable has been sliced
and "flipped." The connector opposite this "flip" connects
to
the JEI049.
If
it
is connected. take a moment to ensure
that
it
is connected properly.
If
it is not connected to
the
JEI049,
connect it now. Make sure the red or blue stripe on the cable,
signifying line one
(1).
connects to the end of the header pin
block marked one (1).
2.4.6 Select the slot the JEI049 is to be installed into. This
can be any slot except the slot closest to the power supply in
an IBM
xr
or compatible.
If
the JE 1049 is
to
be installed in
an IBM AT or compatible. it
will
not matter if it is installed in
a short 8-bit slot or the
lo~er
I6-bit slots.
2.4.7 Remove the back plane bracket for the slot selected (if
applicable). Save the screw since
it will
be used to secure the
JEI049 in place.
2.4.8 Install the JEI049 into the slot that was selected in step
9 by finnly pushing the card into place. Make sure it is solidly
seated in the slot.

2 .4.9 Secure the
JEI049 in place using the screw that was
removed.
2.4.10 Install
the drivels) you plan to use into the computer
if they are
not installed already. Be aware that most drives
will
not
work if they
-
are mounted incorrectly.
If
you are not
sure how
this is accomplished, see your computer's manual(s).
If
this
information is not. included in your manuals. consult
the
manufacturer or the
nearest
representative.
NOTE: 'The
red
or blue stripe
on
one edge oj the cable rejers to
line one
(1).
'The notch in
the
card edge oj the drive is nearest
to line
one.
Make sure that line 1
on
both cable connectors
connects to line
1
on
the rearojthejloppy dtskdrive(s). Rejer
to
theftgure below.

Connecting this cable backwards may cause
irreversible damage!
2.4.11 Connect the cable from the JEI049 to the drive you
plan to use as drive

Make sure drive A attaches to the
connector on the end of the cable opposite the JE 1049 and
that the red or blue stripe on the cable faces the correct
direction.
