  • Page 6 HOW TO USE ZOOM LENS The big question in the minds of many first-time users of zoom lenses is : Do they change focus while ZOOMING (due to the format change and the apparent distance change) ? The answer is NO ! Once the Distance Ring/Scale is set for a particular scene, no change is necessary while ZOOMING IN or OUT, When a different scene is to be filmed at a different distance, the Distance Ring/Scale must be set for the new distance.

    DEPTH-OF-FIELD When you focus the· camera on a subject, there is a certain distance in front and at the back of the subject within which other objects will also appear sharp. This is known as the "Depth-of-field", and it varies with the lens aperture. The smaller the aperture, the greater the depth-of-field.

    LOADING FILM Looding your Yashica movie camera is easy if you follow these steps. With some practice you will do it in seconds. Important: Always load the camera in subdued light, ot in the shadow of your body if you are in sunshine outdoors.
  • Page 11 (5) Insert end of film deep into the slot in the empty spool with • the side marked "1" facing up. (6) Film must run along-the white arrow-line film-path marked inside. (7) Now holding both spools, place the loaded spool on the upper spindle, the empty spool on the lower spindle, and slip the film along the arrow-path into the film gate.
  • Page 12 ALWAYS KEEP SPRING MOTOR FULLY WOUND The Y ASHICA 8 E will run 6 feet of film (30 seconds at 16 frames-per-second) on a full motor wind. To wind the motor, grasp the crank. wind back-and-forth, as you would wind a watch, until forward motion stops.

    EXPOSURE METER The YASHICA 8E movie camera incorporates a convenient and sensitive aperture coupled exposure meter which helps you to determine the correct exposures. The Exposure Indicator (a red diamond visible in the Exposure Indicator Window) is coupled to the frame speed and ASA film speed dials.
  • Page 14 FOR CORRECT EXPOSURE (1) Set the ASA Film Dial (inside the Frame Speed Dial) to the speed of the fllm loaded in the camera. Set the green number opposite the green triangle. (2) Set the Frame Speed number opposite the silver triangle.
  • Page 15 After the above adjustments have been made, look into the Exposure Indicator Window, and gently turn the Aperture Control Ring clockwise or counter-clockwise until these Meter Needle is aligned with the Red Diamond Exposure Indicator. When the Needle and the Indicator are aligned, the camera is set for correct exposure for the prevailing light condition.

    FOOTAGE COUNTER The footage counter indicates the number of feet of fllm ex p osed, and is magnifled for easy reading. Particularly useful, as it can be manually reset, when rewinding the fllm for double ex p osures.   • Page 20 CARE OF YOUR Y ASHICA 8 E With reasonable care your Yashica SE ZOOM will always operate perfectly. Store the Yashica SE ZOOM in a dry place, away from heat or cold. If the climate is particularly humid, it is advisable to keep small bags of silica-gel or any other dehydrating agent with the camera to prevent excessive accumulation of moisture in the working parts.
