Chapter 1: Setting up for the first time
Connecting your camcorder to a computer using a cable
You can use an i.LINK or a USB cable to connect your camcorder to a computer.
Using an i.LINK connection, you can import videos recorded on a tape to a computer, or export videos
from a computer to your camcorder.
Using a USB connection, you can copy still images from a "Memory Stick Duo" to a computer, or copy
still images from a computer to a "Memory Stick Duo."
Connecting with an i.LINK cable
Using an i.LINK connection, you can copy videos recorded on a tape.
Notes
You cannot copy still images from a "Memory Stick Duo" to a computer with an i.LINK cable.
When connecting your camcorder to a computer, make sure you insert the connector in the correct direction. Do not insert
the connector forcibly as it may damage the cable or your camcorder.
Connect
HDV/DV jack of your camcorder and i.LINK jack of a computer with an i.LINK
cable.

To disconnect the i.LINK cable
Turn off the power of the camcorder, then disconnect the i.LINK cable from the camcorder and
computer.

Connecting with a USB cable

Using a USB connection, you can copy files from a "Memory Stick Duo" to a computer, or copy files
from a computer to a "Memory Stick Duo."
Note that if you do not turn on the power and make the connections in the order described in the
following steps, your computer may not recognize your camcorder.
Note
When connecting your camcorder to a computer, make sure you insert the connector in the correct direction. Do not insert
the connector forcibly as it may damage the cable or your camcorder.
Connection image (USB cable and USB jack)
1 Turn on the computer.
If any software starts on the computer automatically, close it.
2 Connect your camcorder to a power source, then slide the POWER switch repeatedly to select the PLAY/EDIT mode.
Use the AC Adaptor as the power source.
For operating the POWER switch, refer to the Operating Guide supplied with your camcorder.
3 Insert the "Memory Stick Duo" into your camcorder.
4 Connect the USB cable to the USB jack on the camcorder firmly.
For the location of the USB jack, refer to the Operating Guide supplied with your camcorder.
