Towing the vehicle

5.1.1 Warnings and precautions
WARNING:
Keep the towing devices from coming into contact with the fuel tank
or fuel lines, as this may result in fuel leaks. Do not lift or tow the
vehicle from the front or rear bumpers or from the bumper shock
absorbers. Do not go under a lifted vehicle unless it is adequately
supported by appropriate devices. Do not allow passengers to travel
on a towed vehicle. Use a safety chain which is independent from
the towing system. Failure to follow these instructions could result
in injury or even death.
IMPORTANT:
When attaching the towing device to the vehicle, take care not to
damage the brake lines, the exhaust system, the shock absorbers,
the anti-roll bars or any other special parts under the frame. Do not
attach the towing device to the front or rear suspension
components. Do not attach the vehicle to the towing device using
the suspension or steering linkages. Before starting towing
operations, remove or secure any loose or protruding parts from the
damaged vehicle. Consult the local and national legal regulations
before towing the vehicle. The weight of the towed vehicle must not
be applied to the lower shields, air conveyors or spoilers.
IMPORTANT:
Do not tow any vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission
with the wheels on the ground, as this could damage the engine/
transmission unit. Make sure that all drive wheels are raised off the
ground if these vehicles need to be towed.
