Adjusting the tracking
Although the VCR automatically adjusts the tracking when playing a tape
(the AUTO TRACKING indicator flashes in the display window , then lights
steadily), distor tion may occur if the tape was r ecor ded in poor condition. If
so, manually adjust the tracking.
Press $/ 4 TRACKING to display the tracking
meter . The distor tion should disappear as you
press one of the two buttons. If you cannot get a
clear pictur e with manual adjustment, pr ess
TRACKING AUTO/MANU (VHS) to r etur n to
automatic adjustment.
About Optimum Picture Control (OPC)
Optimum Picture Contr ol (OPC) automatically
improves r ecording and playback quality by
adjusting the VCR to the condition of the video
heads and tape. T o maintain better pictur e quality ,
we r ecommend that you set VHS OPC to ON in
the SET UP MENU (with the OPC indicator in the
display window lit).
OPC playback
The OPC function automatically works on all types of tapes, including r
tapes and tapes that wer e not r ecorded with OPC.
OPC r ecor ding
Whenever you inser t a tape and first star t recording, the VCR adjusts to the
tape using the OPC function (the OPC indicator flashes rapidly). This
adjustment is r etained until the tape is ejected.
To deactivate the OPC
Press MENU and select SET UP MENU, then set VHS OPC to OFF. The OPC

• There is a delay of a few seconds befor
VCR analyses the tape. T o avoid the delay , first set the VCR to r ecor ding pause (the
OPC indicator flashes slowly) and pr ess r REC to have the VCR analyse the tape
(the OPC indicator flashes rapidly). After the OPC indicator stops flashing, pr
P PAUSE to star t recor ding immediately . If you want to star t recor ding quickly
without using the OPC function, first set the VCR to r
