Engine Cooling
(Cont'd)
The bottom cowl exit is below and towards the rear, or
slightly aft, of the engine. This exit opening should be at
least twice the area of the front air inlets. Make sure outside
air is not forced into this opening from the bottom of the
cowl. A small "lip" extending down from the front edge of the
opening can help create a negative pressure area to "pull"
hot air out of the exit opening.

Front cowling inlets guide all incoming air to
the upper area of cowl. The same method is
used regardless of cowl shape. Air not forced
through the cylinders by shrouds and ducting is
wasted.
Upper cowling removed showing correct
ducting. Notice there is only about a .25"gap
around the cylinders and most of the
crankcase. All air entering the upper area
flows equally down through the fins, then out
the bottom cowl exit.
