The purpose of this manual is to provide support for “Qualified personal” as described on the next page, when installing, main- taining and servicing the ATEX sensors of the LDS 6 laser gas ana- lyzer. This manual describes the preparations, installation, main- tenance, service of the ATEX sensors and the barrier units.

Therefore only qualified personnel may install or maintain the LDS 6 and the associated ATEX equipment. Persons considered as qualified according to the safety informa-...
The chapter begins with some safety information, which is followed by installation instructions. Figure 2.1 below shows a schematic illustration of the set-up. Figure 2.1 The set-up of the LDS 6 and the ATEX sensor system Safety Information Electrical Safety...

Laser Safety All lasers used by LDS 6 are of class 1. The emitted laser light is in most cases invisible (near infrared) and the intensity is so low that the unprotected eye is not damaged. However, if you look directly into the beam with focusing optics (such as binoculars) there is a risk of eye damage.

The Ex version is delivered with an approval for use in hazardous environments in which explosive gases are in use. The ATEX certificate is a system certificate and is only valid if LDS 6 is installed according to the instructions given in the certif- icate. Approval...

CAUTION The ATEX certificate is a system certificate and is only valid if LDS 6 is installed according to the instructions given in the certificate. NOTE Do not install the sensors unless the purging media is accessible (for sensors that require purging).
Always protect the single-mode fibre (E2000 connector) from dust. Do not remove the plastic vial until the cable is firmly fastened in the sensor. Figure 2.2 Connections in the transmitter sensor Figure 2.3 Transmitter sensor ATEX manual for LDS 6 A5E01206710-02...

This cable is connected to the bottom of the barrier box when delivered (when an ATEX version of the LDS 6 is used). 2. Connect the hybrid cable to the central unit using the stan- dard procedure.
Installation Guidelines Connecting Receiver to Transmitter Sensor For ATEX versions of the LDS 6 the receiver sensor are pre- mounted with special ATEX electronics and surge protection. The green phoenix contact mounted on the sensor card is already connected with a red wire for + and a black wire for –. Two addi- tional wires should be connected to the phoenix connector.
Ex sensor must be used. Purging with oxygen free gas is also necessary when performing water vapor mea- surements. The sensors for sensor purging supplied by Siemens Laser Analytics include a needle valve and a check valve (see fig- ure 2.7).
Make sure all plugs and tube fittings are sealed with the enclosed pipe thread Sealant (Swagelok MS-PTS-6). (Instructions given on the sealant tube must be carefully followed). NOTE When using a plastic tube, be sure to use the rigid metal insert. ATEX manual for LDS 6 A5E01206710-02...
1 to 12 months. When performing maintenance and service on the LDS 6 it is of upmost importance that all equip- ment and personnel are ESD protected. The chapter begins with a description of ESD and ESD protection.

In many facilities, people are one of the prime generators of static electricity. Therefore, wrist straps must be used while car- rying out maintenance and service on the LDS 6, to keep the per- son wearing it connected to ground potential. A wrist strap con- sists of the cuff that goes around the person's wrist and the ground cord that connects the cuff to the common point ground.
Instructions for Maintenance and Service Service Instructions The following sections give step-by-step instructions for mainte- nance and service tasks for the LDS 6 ATEX sensors. 3.2.1 The Sensors Cleaning the Wedge Windows If the transmission for a channel drops below the level set by the user, the transmission alarm will be activated.
Performing any actions except for the ones given in this manual will violate the ATEX certification and may cause death or substantial damage. Siemens will not be liable for any damages should these instruc- tions not be followed. WARNING No components marked with ATEX can be replaced by field service technicians.
