Playback and Recording on the Music Center
Can the Music Center playback MP3-CDs and WMA-CDs as well as Copy Protected CDs?
Yes.
Is MP3 compression an acceptable format?
MP3 is a popular standard audio compression format widely accepted today by music listeners around the
world. The higher the kbps rate, the higher is the sound quality. MP3 claims near-CD quality sound at
128kbps.
What is Ripping?
Ripping is a process to read, convert & compress CD music into MP3 format.
What speed can I rip the audio CDs on the Music Center?
You can either choose the speed of 1x (listen and rip) or 4x (fast speed ripping) to rip your CD. This
selection can be made on the main menu of the Music Center.
What format does the Music Center store in hard disk?
Audio CD files are stored either as PCM (temporary "Raw tracks") or MP3 format on the 40GB hard
disk.
What is the hard disk capacity in Music Center?
40GB or up to 750 CDs can be stored in compressed MP3 format at 128 kbps.
Do I have to wait for compression to be completed before I can listen to my music?
Once your CD is ripped, you can start listening to your tracks (PCM format) on the Music Center or the
pre-assigned "Super Station".
Can I make a DIY upgrade for the hard disk inside the Music Center?
No, we do not recommend this because there are lots of software and management data, such as Philips
serial number, software utilities, CDDB version number, etc. that are only available from Philips.
Music Content Management and Distribution
What is Gracenote built-in CDDB database?
Gracenote is a massive archive containing the Album, Artist, Title, Genre, Music Length and Year
information of most original labels for music CDs available in the market today.
When a music CD is inserted into the slot loader of the Music Center, it takes only a few moments to
match the CDDB database and display the full CD details on the set's display (i.e. Track info).
Do I need to immediately update the CDDB database stored in Music Center after I
bring the bundle home?
Not necessary, there is already a massive database collections pre-stored in Music Center. Most of your
six-month-old CDs should be able to match the database.
