The DCR1701 is a DAB/FM clock radio with dual alarms. The alarms can be set independently to wake you at your choice of times.

Place the unit on dry stable surface away from heat and damp and where it is unlikely to fall or be knocked over.
Before using your unit for DAB or FM reception, unwrap and fully extend the aerial wire. You may need to adjust the position of the aerial wire for maximum signal strength.
When switched on the radio will scan for all usable stations and store them alphanumerically -1 Radio, 2 Radio, AA Radio, AB Radio... The initial scan will take a few minutes. After the scan, the number of stations found will be displayed, the clock will be set, the radio will display the first station in the sequence and begin playing.
NOTE: If no stations are found after the scan, switch the radio off and move it to a location with a stronger signal. When you switch the radio back on it will automatically repeat the scan process.
You can run a scan for stations and add to the station list at any time. This may be necessary if the initial scan was run in a poor signal area, if new stations are available or if you move to a different location.
Refer to the 'Autoscan' section for more details of scanning.
The clock on your radio is automatically set when first used from the time signal broadcast with DAB radio stations.
You can set the brightness of the display backlight separately when the radio is operating and when it is set to Standby.
The stations are stored in an alphanumeric list.
Your radio can also receive FM band radio stations.
Your radio can store up to 10 of your favourite stations as presets on both the DAB and FM bands for quick recall.
When playing a DAB station you can change the information on the display by changing the display mode.
To change the display mode from the default of Station name:
DLS (SCROLLING TEXT): This is a scrolling message giving real-time information - song titles, news headlines, etc.
PROGRAMME TYPE: This describes (when available) the style of the programme being broadcast.
MULTIPLEX NAME (GROUP NAME): is the name of the DAB Multiplex that is currently tuned.
TIME AND DATE: Shows the current time and date. This information is updated by broadcasted information.
MULTIPLEX FREQUENCY/NUMBER: The multiplex frequency and channel number are displayed.
AUDIO BIT RATE: DAB allows broadcasters to vary the BIT RATE (or the amount by which an audio signal can be compressed) depending on the type of broadcast. This enables the amount of stations on a multiplex to be maximised. Speech and News are often broadcast at a lower Bit Rate; music needs a higher Bit Rate for good fidelity.
SIGNAL STRENGTH: This bargraph indicates the quality of the signal being received. In low signal areas, adjusting the aerial to increase the signal strength indication will improve reception quality.
RDS information
Your radio can receive RDS radio data. This enables the display of station name, scrolling broadcast text and other information.
RDS (SCROLLING TEXT): This is a scrolling message giving real-time information - song titles, news headlines, etc.
STATION NAME/FREQUENCY: When available, the station name is displayed, otherwise the frequency is displayed.
PROGRAMME TYPE: This describes (when available) the style of the programme being broadcast.
TIME AND DATE: Shows the current time and date. This information is updated by broadcasted information.
Your radio includes a dual alarm function. Two separate alarm times can be set - Alarm 1 and Alarm 2.
During the setting process, each alarm can be preset with a wake-up time, a DAB preset, an FM station, a buzzer tone and alarm volume level. Once these settings have been completed, the alarm(s) may be activated and you can choose your preferred wake-up options of DAB, FM or Buzzer.
Once the alarm settings have been completed, the alarms must be activated when required.
will be displayed when Alarm 1 is set,
will be displayed when Alarm 2 is set and
will be displayed when both alarms are set.
The Sleep function allows you to program your radio to switch off automatically after a set period in the range 90, 80, 70, 60, 30, 20, 10 minutes.
Manual tuning enables you to search the band manually by pressing the or
buttons to step through the multiplex numbers and check if any have usable signal strength on a bargraph display. Manual tuning is not necessary in normal operation where scanning will have established a station list of usable stations.
When first used, your audio system scanned the DAB band for available stations. The station services found were then stored in your system's memory.
If you move to a different area or just want to refresh the stored list of available stations, you can re-scan the band at any time by selecting this option.
During a scan the unit will now display the legend 'Scanning' and a bargraph to show scan progress.
The number of services found during the scan will be shown at the right side of the display.
DAB is a terrestrial system and frequencies in different areas vary. If you move the system to another part of the country performing a Full Scan may not be enough to re program the radio. You may therefore need to reset the radio.
NOTE: If you reset the radio all preset station memories and timer settings will be lost.
All care and cleaning operations should be carried out with the unit unplugged from the mains power.
Occasionally wipe the cabinet with a lint free duster. Never clean the unit with liquids or solvents.
