AUDIO BIT RATE: DAB allows broadcasters to vary the BIT RATE (or the amount by which an audio signal can be compressed) depending on the type of broadcast. This enables the amount of stations on a multiplex to be maximised. Speech and News are often broadcast at a lower Bit Rate; music needs a higher Bit Rate for good fidelity.

SIGNAL STRENGTH: This bargraph indicates the quality of the signal being received. In low signal areas, adjusting the aerial to increase the signal strength indication will improve reception quality.

FM DISPLAY MODES

RDS information

Your radio can receive RDS radio data. This enables the display of station name, scrolling broadcast text and other information.

Manual tuning is not necessary in normal operation where scanning will have established a station list of usable stations.

Autoscan

When first used, your audio system scanned the DAB band for available stations. The station services found were then stored in your system's memory.

If you move to a different area or just want to refresh the stored list of available stations, you can re-scan the band at any time by selecting this option.

During a scan the unit will now display the legend 'Scanning' and a bargraph to show scan progress.

The number of services found during the scan will be shown at the right side of the display.

SYSTEM RESET

DAB is a terrestrial system and frequencies in different areas vary. If you move the system to another part of the country performing a Full Scan may not be enough to re program the radio. You may therefore need to reset the radio.

To reset the system

  • Press and hold the MENU button.
Press SELECT to confirm reset will be displayed.

TROUBLESHOOTING

No power

  • Check that the AC adaptor is connected correctly and mains power is switched on.

Poor reception

  • Check the signal strength. If the signal strength is low, try adjusting the position of the aerial. If this doesn't help, move the radio to a position where the signal strength is better.

Alarm not sounding

  • Check that the alarm(s) have been set correctly.
  • If you have set DAB or FM presets to wake you, check that the alarm volume is set loud enough.

DAB reception problems after moving area

  • The station list will need updating. Try scanning the band. If there are still problems with all or part of the station list, reset the radio.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

AFTER USING YOUR RADIO

  • Set to Standby.
  • Switch the unit off at the mains and unplug it if you are leaving it unattended for a long period (holidays etc).

CARE AND CLEANING

All care and cleaning operations should be carried out with the unit unplugged from the mains power.
