Machine Description

Summary
GE Motors horizontal, weather-protected type I
motor enclosures can be used in confidence in many
outdoor locations where increased protection against
moisture and/or other contaminants is required.
Custom Polyseal insulation systems, special
bearing seals, conduit box gaskets, sealed terminal
plates, and moisture-resistant finished are standard with
these enclosures to assure extended life in adverse
ambient.
Enclosure
Fabricated steel construction is used in the
frame section to withstand the severe shocks normally
experienced in heavy-duty applications. Flat end shields
provide support for the machine bearings with a
lightweight
construction
maintenance without sacrificing strength or rigidity.
These motors have received special inspection
during the manufacturing and assembly operations to
assure that all parts have been manufactured in
accordance with strict quality-assurance standards.

Ventilation
These motors are designed with a self-ventilation
system which circulates ambient air through the motor.
Louvered openings in the end shields provide an
entrance for cooling air at both ends of the motor. The
air passes through air deflectors to the rotor fans. The
fans blow a portion of the air radially across the end
turns of the stator coils. The remainder enters the large
ventilation openings in the rotor body and passes
through the rotor ducts. At this point it rejoins the air
circulated across the coil end turns and is directed out of
the air exhaust passages at the side of the frame.
Weather-protected Type I motors are equipped
with removable screens over all air openings.
