Setting Up the BlackBerry PlayBook
• To start up the BlackBerry® PlayBook™ for the first time, long press the Power key.
At this stage, it is recommended that for the set up you connect your tablet to a
power source using the charger and that a stable Wi-Fi connection is available
with the Wi-Fi key/password for that connection.
• Tap the desired language for the device. Swipe to continue. Tap the Wi-Fi network
you wish to connect to. If a password is required, tap the Password field. Use the
virtual keyboard to tap the required password details to connect to the enabled
and selected Wi-Fi network. Tap Connect. Wait while the connection to the
network is made. Swipe to continue.
• Tap the Time Zone drop down menu. Scroll to and tap the appropriate time zone.
Swipe to continue. Tap the Country drop down menu. Scroll to and tap the
appropriate country.
• Wait for the BlackBerry ID Agreement to load. Read the BlackBerry ID
Agreement and if you accept it, tap I Agree. Swipe to continue. Read the
Limited Warranty notice and swipe to continue.
Creating a BlackBerry ID
• You will need a BlackBerry ID to access BlackBerry services on your BlackBerry®
Playbook™. To create a BlackBerry ID, tap Create a BlackBerry ID. Tap the
Username field. Use the virtual keyboard to tap your email address and tap Next.
In the Screen Name field, use the virtual keyboard to tap a screen name. Tap
Next. In the Password field, use the virtual keyboard to tap a password for the
account. Tap Next. In the Confirm Password field, re-enter the password and tap
Next. In the Enter a question field, use the virtual keyboard to tap a question to
recover your password, should you forget it. Tap Next. Use the virtual keyboard to tap the answer to the question.
Tap Submit. Wait while you are signed into your new BlackBerry ID account. Swipe from right to left along the
bottom of the screen.
Software Updates
• The BlackBerry® PlayBook™ will now check for software updates. If there are software updates, wait while the update
downloads. When the software update is complete, tap Restart.
• When your tablet restarts, swipe to continue. When the BlackBerry® Bridge™ screen appears, swipe to continue.
• Tap the Home screen tutorial icon to learn how to use the Home screen. Follow the steps onscreen. Tap the App
menus tutorial icon to learn how to use the App menu. Follow the steps onscreen.
Tap Done to start using your BlackBerry® PlayBook™.
