Bleeding the Fuel System

CAUTION
Running the engine with air in the fuel system could
damage the fuel injection pump. Remove air from the
system as detailed below.

WARNING
When the engine is turning, there are parts rotating in
the engine compartment.
Before starting this job make sure that you have no
loose clothing (cuffs, ties etc) which could get caught
in rotating parts.
When the engine is turning, keep clear of rotating parts

Raise the load bay.

To bleed air from the filter, slacken bleed screw 16-A.
Operate fuel priming bulb 16-B until air-free fuel flows
from the union.

The fuel injection pump is self bleeding as the engine
is cranked.

Loosen the unions at 16-C, 16-D and 16-E. If you are
working with an assistant warn him that you are about
to turn the engine.

Open the throttle a little and turn the starter key to
rotate the engine.

When air-free fuel flows from all three points, tighten
the unions.
