a suitable drain pan should be installed under the heater, see fig. 1 (Y). The pan must not restrict combustion air flow. Such pans should have a minimum length and width of at least 2 inches greater than the diameter of the heater and should be piped to an adequate drain.

It is recommended that lower water temperatures be used to avoid the risk of scalding. It is further recommended, in all cases, that the water temperature dial, Figure 1, be set for the lowest temperature which satisfies your hot water needs.

WARNING SOOT BUILD-UP INDICATES A PROBLEM THAT REQUIRES CORRECTION BEFORE FURTHER USE. CONSULT WITH A QUALIFIED SERVICE TECHNICIAN. Should the main burner or burner air openings require cleaning, turn the gas control knob to “OFF” position and allow the burner to cool.
