Troubleshooting

If your camera fails to function as expected, check the list of common
problems below before consulting your retailer or Nikon representative.
Refer to the page numbers listed in the rightmost column for
information on solving the problems listed here.
Problem
• Camera is off.
• Battery is not correctly inserted or battery-
chamber cover is not fully closed.
• Battery is exhausted.
• EH-21 AC adapter/battery charger (available
separately) is not properly connected.
Monitor is blank
• Camera is in sleep mode. Press shutter release
button halfway.
• Monitor is off. Press
monitor on.
• PAL is selected in Video Mode menu and video
cable is connected.
• Indicators are hidden. In shooting mode, press
No indicators appear on Multi selector until indicators are
in monitor displayed.
• Slide show is in progress.
• Monitor brightness requires adjustment.
Monitor is hard to read
• Monitor is dirty.
• Camera is in playback or SETUP mode.
• Battery is exhausted.
• Number of exposures remaining is zero: not
enough memory remaining.
No picture is taken • AF light flickers: camera unable to focus.
when shutter release • Flash light flickers: flash is charging.
button is fully pressed • Message "MEMORY CARD IS NOT
FORMATTED" appears in monitor: CF memory
card is not formatted for use in COOLPIX885.
• Message "NO MEMORY CARD" appears in
monitor: no CF memory card in camera.
