audio design of the mid 20th century.
Studio Shipping Check
The Studio is shipped in 2 boxes, one for the main amp
and one for the power supply. Upon receiving both boxes,
check for shipping damage by:
1) Gently rock the amplifier back and forth listening
for anything that may have come loose in shipping.
2) Make sure all the screws are tight.
If you feel somethig was loosened in shipping, please
contact Eddie Currect for further insturctions. Most issues
can be easily corrected.
Studio Setup/ Preparing the Amp:
The rectifier tubes are inside the power supply. Please remove
the cover and grey packing foam.
Be sure the rectifier tubes are firmly in their sockets, and the
white caps are in place on top.
Your amplifier has been set to run on the requested voltage.
The umbilical cord that connects the power supply to the
main amplifier is shipped in the power supply box. Check
to see that the proper voltage is identified with a silver dot
in the square.
Put the top cover back on the power supply, and attach the
umbilical cord. The cord is not directional, and can go on
either way. There is a large notch at 12 o'clock-- line this
up, and twist the ring to secure the cord.
The two 9 pin sockets in the front are wired for 5842/417A
tubes.
Your 2A3 tubes should have two large, and two small
pins. Be sure to align them to plug in correctly.
Operation
Hook up for the speakers--plus and minus-- are indicat-
ed on the speaker jacks as red for plus, black for minus.
Plug in your source, and power the amplifier on. To lis-
ten to speakers, the front panel switch must be on the
speaker icon, for headphone listening the switch is on
headphone icon. (headphone switch turns off speakers.)
There are two headphone jacks, the four pin is a true
balanced output, and the ¼" unbalances the signal for
three conductor headphones. Note, when a ¼" headphone
is plugged in the balanced output will be single ended.
Turn the amplifier on, the white front panel light should
come on, and the tube heaters light. You may hear a
low level shimmering sound from the output tubes for
about 10 seconds. This is normal, and varies with tube
manufactures. It takes about five minutes for the amplifier
to completely warm up, and sound its best.
You're ready to listen!

About Tube Rolling:
There are six signal, and two rectifier
tubes used in the Studio amplifier: two
5842Q/417A driver tubes under the port
hole glass; four 2A3 tubes on top; and two
6D22S rectifier tubes in the power chassis.
Old stock American 2A3 tubes sound the
best, and you can mix brand names as long as they are
loosely matched in pairs. Example, a Kenrad in the left
and right, and a Sylvania in the left and right. There are
good sounding Chinese tubes as well. The amp ships with a
military, Raytheon brand 5842Q, but the Western Electric
417A, or the RCA gold pin 5842Q are also very good.
If you wish to change those tubes you must remove the
bottom cover. Disconnect the power, pull the 2A3 tubes
and lay the amp upside down on a soft cloth. Remove
12 mounting screws--before setting the rear panel aside
make a note of how to put it back the same way it came
off. Be careful when pulling the 5842Q tubes out--they are
in tight. Conversely, be extremely careful when inserting
in the new tubes. Make sure the pins are straight, and you
push the tubes in correctly, it is easy to bend a pin and
the tube will not insert. When replacing the bottom cover,
put all 12 screws in before tightening. The rectifier tubes
should not need tube rolling, but the American EY500 is
a direct replacement for the Russian 6D22S, and you may
use those.
