Safety Protection Principles

Several different types of protection principles are used within the Maxum II and its
components. These include intrinsically safe circuits, pressurization, explosion-proof
enclosures, etc. The protection principles used depend on such factors as the type of device,
the certifying organization that is applicable for the site, and the type of environment. Table
1-2 details some of the protection principles used in the Maxum II along with the hardware that
uses those protection principles.
