4. Installation

In the following, important information about the location and orientation of the
camera for number plate recognition will be given.
If the camera is not installed correctly, the rates of recognition will decline.
In the following, the abbreviated term "ANPR camera" (from Automatic Number
Plate Recognition) will be used.

4.1 Scope of application

4.1.1 Input/output monitoring

During input and output monitoring, vehicles are either completely stationary (barrier/gate) or
travelling at a correspondingly low speed. In the case of a vehicle lane, the front (entrance)
and/or rear (exit) number plate is detected. The camera can be installed to the side of the vehicle
lane. The optimal position for the camera is above the vehicle lane, however this is often difficult
in practice. When vehicle lanes are separated for entrance and exit, the use of two separate
ANPR cameras is recommended.
Installation variants:
Above the vehicle lane (optimal)
To the side of the vehicle lane (max. lateral installation must be respected; see
below)

4.2 Information before installation

To ensure optimal recognition of number plates, the following points must be observed and/or
checked:
Ensure that the camera always has an unobstructed view of the number plate in the
detection zone provided
Respect the min./max. distances from and max. orientation angle to the number plate
described below
The max. horizontal inclination of the number plate may not exceed +/- 5 degrees
Direct sunlight may impair the detection results of the ANPR camera
