WIRELESS INTERLINKED SMOKE DETECTOR
FA21RF is an optical smoke detector, which is combined with a transceiver unit. With the installation of more then one smoke detector, the communication is wireless. In case of smoke emission in one of the protected rooms ALL installed FA22RF smoke detectors are activated. A standard smoke detector that sounds alarm in the loft might not always be audible in the garage. This situation changes with FA22RF.
General:
Detects smoke under the ceiling through openings at the bottom of the detector. Pressing the test button will check the function of the detector. Testing the device using smoke is therefore not advisable or required. LED indicator: the LED will briefly illuminate approx. every 30 seconds, this is the measurement cycle. When the LED is flashing quickly smoke is being detected and in most cases an alarm will follow.
IMPORTANT
- Smoke detectors detect smoke, so if tested with a lighter the alarm will not sound.
- Smoke detectors check the air for the presence of smoke, not heat, gas or fire.
- Smoke detectors need maintenance.
- Do not install rechargeable batteries.
- Smoke detectors are not to be painted over.
- Do not cover the siren opening (c) on the front of device.
POSITIONING
- Smoke detectors are to be ceiling-mounted at least 65cm from the nearest corner or wall.
- Do not place smoke detectors within 30cm of an electrical distribution box.
- Install at least 2 smoke detectors, one per floor and for extra protection one per room.
- Do not place smoke detectors in rooms where you smoke or cook or with a high humidity.
- Place smoke detectors preferably along the escape route for extra protection.
- Do not place smoke detectors in rooms with possible temperatures below -5ºC or above 40ºC.
- Ensure that smoke detectors are easy to be reached for testing and maintenance.
INSTALLATION
- Install the mounting plate (a) in the desired position.
- Install a 9V battery in the battery compartment (f) for the smoke detector itself.
- Install three 1.5V penlite type AA batteries in the larger battery compartment (g) for the transceiver. Before you install the last AA battery, push down red nock first and then the battery.
- Install the smoke detector with its openings (b) on the clips (h) of the mounting plate (a) and click them with a twist into place.
Note: it is not possible to mount the detector on the mounting plate without batteries.
INSTALLATION TEST
- Check each installed device by pressing the test button (d) for several seconds. Release the button when the alarm sounds. The alarm will stop automatically after several seconds. Now you know the device is functioning properly.
- The operation of the transmitter is based on the "master and slave" principle. Now determine which alarm is "master", all other alarms must be set as "slaves".
- We recommend performing the login with all detectors together on a table.
- Repeatedly press the LEARN button (e) on the "master" until the green indicator LED lights up.
- Press (several times) the LEARN button (e) on all "slaves". These should all show a red indicator LED.
- Keep the "master" test button (d) pressed before the "master"/"slave" LEDS switch off (+/- 20sec) until all "slaves" also generate an alarm signal.
- Perform the test immediately after installation; press the test button on 1 alarm (regardless of it being the "master" or a "slave").The alarm signal will sound and LEARN indicator LED will flash red. All other devices will sound the alarm with a flashing green LEARN indicator LED.
MAKING A LARGE GROUP
If 20 seconds appear to be too short to login the required number of devices, you can make a smaller group first. You can expand this group by setting extra detectors to "slave". You can now press and hold the test button on any device from the existing group until all other detectors react to add the extra detectors to the group.
MAKING SEPARATE GROUPS
It is possible to make separate groups in one building.
First you have to clean the memory of each detector:
- Take out all batteries from the detectors and place them back after 3 minutes.
- Set each detector as slave (Repeatedly press LEARN button.( RED LED must be on) and press TEST button. Alarm will sound only from this one unit.
After creating the first group (see Installation Test), if you want to make a second group, wait at least 5 minutes and then repeat the same learning procedure for the new group. If you decide to change one detector from one group to the other, you have to learn this detector as slave only with the master from the second group. You can only change a slave detector from one group to the other.
Note: If there is an alarm in one group, as an indication the green LEDs will blink in the other group, but there will be no alarm sound.
TEST/MAINTENANCE
- Test your smoke detectors at least once per month by pressing the test button (d), all devices to sound alarm.
- Vacuum your smoke detectors at least twice per year to remove dust and dirt.
USE
The alarm is provided with a test button. Press this until the alarm signal sounds. The signal stops once the button is released. Test the alarm at least once per month, and certainly after replacing the battery or after cleaning, with a vacuum cleaner for example. The alarm must be vacuumed regularly to remove dust particles and to protect it as well as possible. The casing may not be opened during cleaning. If the alarm fails to operate correctly, the advice of the manufacturer should be sought.
BATTERIES
- The batteries have a life span of about one year.
- Low battery indication by short alarm signal. Exchange all batteries of a device at the same time.
FALSE ALARM
- Some particles may have entered the optical sensor. Blow the sensor out (or use compressed air) and a vacuum cleaner regularly to keep it clean.
- Do not place the detector close to spotlights and/or other electronic devices.
- Use high-quality batteries (Do not use rechargeable batteries).
