DreamWear Mask Use and Fitting for the Run-In Night

General Approach
1. Fit all subjects with the DreamWear nasal mask with under-the-nose cushion.
2. Check the mask fit using the aCPAP mask fit function as described on page 17 of this
manual. Adjust the mask accordingly.
3. If a subject
cannot use the nasal mask (e.g. uncomfortable, difficulty breathing through nose
because of nasal congestion), please visually show the subject both the DreamWear full face
mask and DreamWear nasal pillows, and have him/her select the preferred style. If the
subject has no preference, try the full face mask next. The full face mask contains magnets,
so do not select if this is contraindicated. Use the aCPAP mask fit function (pg 17) to confirm
fit. Make adjustments accordingly.
4. Use the fitted mask for the 15-20-minute daytime trial prior to the run-in night. Make
adjustments to optimize comfort.

  • Page 7 4. (Optional) Fabric sleeves: Wrap the sleeves around the mask frame and press the strips together. Note: The sleeve seams should be on the outside of the frame. 5. Headgear: Slide the headgear top strap tabs into the slots on the mask frame and fold backwards.
  • Page 8 Achieving the Right Fit for a Full Face Mask 1. Hold the gauge horizontally under the nose and select the cushion size based on where the outer edge of the nostrils and tip of the nose contact the gauge. 2. The cushion opening will be directly under the nostrils. The cushion will hug the nose and mouth, and the leak will be minimal.
  • Page 9 Adjusting the DreamWear Full Face Mask 1. Peel the headgear tabs away from the fabric. Adjust the length of the top straps. Press the tabs back against the fabric to reattach. Repeat this step with the bottom straps (figure step 6). Note: do not overtighten the headgear.

Pull on the tubing quick release and it will disengage from the elbow and come loose with the tubing (figure step 9). Assume different sleeping positions and move around until you are comfortable. Some air leaking is normal, but if you notice excessive air leaks, make final adjustments.

  • Page 17 Mask Fit Function The Mask Fit function is designed to help clinicians assess and identify possible air leaks around the subject’s mask. To check mask fit: 1. Place the fitted mask attached to the aCPAP on the subject. 2. In My Options, turn the dial to highlight Run Mask Fit and then press the dial.
