Spirent Epitiro 4160 Probe - Quick Start
IMPORTANT PROVISIONING NOTES (READ THIS FIRST!)
From the factory, a probe must be field-provisioned before it is ready for service. You can provision a probe at the test site. However, in some
architectures, all probes are provisioned at a central office location, then distributed to test sites for basic installation and turnup only.
Therefore, to properly interpret the information in this document, you must know how provisioning activities occur within your organization. That is, you must know
whether your task is to install the probe, provision the probe, or both.
BASIC INSTALLATION
The unit may be placed on any stable, horizontal surface that:
Has access to all required wiring connections
Is well within range of any Wi-Fi networks to be tested (Wi-Fi testing probes only)
PHYSICAL CONNECTIONS
For normal operation, the following connections are required:
To power the unit, either:
The AC/DC power adapter.
-or-
A power-over-Ethernet (PoE) cable.
To test over Wi-Fi, the three antennas (not required if the probe
will not test over Wi-Fi).
Caution - Do not overtighten the
antennas!
To test over LTE, the USB LTE dongle (not required if the probe
will not test over LTE).
(Optional) An Ethernet cable with connectivity to a DHCP server
and the public internet (same as the PoE cable, if connected). If
PoE and Ethernet testing are not applicable, this connection is
optional. However, it is highly recommended, because it
provides an alternate communication path for remote
maintenance and troubleshooting.
