VOGT. to indicate the weight. For handling, the equipment that requires it has appropriate eyebolts on the base plate.
  • Page 27: Storage Instructions

Transportation, Storage and Handling 4.3 Storage Instructions These instructions are for storage less than 12 months from the date of shipment. If longer, please request instructions for long term storage. 4.3.1 Before Storage CAUTION • Storage should be in a place protected from the outside, away from shocks, solar radiation, dust, humidity and flooding.
  • Page 28: Installation

VOGT S.A., the authorized distributor or the company that carried out the transport. VOGT S.A. supplies its L series pumping equipment on bases which are designed to be placed on the foundation and anchored with bolts, as indicated later in this manual. The possibility of grouting the bases to the foundation is at the customer's discretion.
  • Page 29: Anchor Bolts

5.4 Anchor Bolts VOGT S.A. supplies the pumping equipment with bases, these must be anchored to the foundation by means of anchor bolts, as shown in figure 17 and applying the tightening torque according to table Nº 14.
  • Page 30 Installation 5.5 Joints to Rigid Piping System CAUTION For optimum operation of the motor-pump equipment, the piping should not exert stresses on the equipment. The equipment can be deformed, broken or misaligned when the piping is not aligned with the axes corresponding to the suction and discharge of the pump.
  • Page 31 Installation If a reduction is installed in the suction line, it should be eccentric and its straight part should be at the top to facilitate the exit of trapped air bubbles to the pump, see figure 19. The elbows and accessories installed in the pump suction must be selected and installed in such a way that the liquid enters the impeller in a symmetrical and orderly way, this is achieved by installing a pipe section of the same diameter of the pump suction and a length of 10 times that diameter, see figure 20.
  • Page 32 That is why VOGT S.A., recommends the use of expansion joints as part of the piping system that connects to the pump, when conditions warrant it, see figure 22.
  • Page 33 Installation 5.7 Alignment Pumping equipment is assembled and aligned at the factory by qualified personnel, however, during transportation or handling the equipment can suffer stresses that can cause misalignment between the pump and the motor, which can lead to bearing and coupling failures. Therefore it is important to check and correct the alignment when necessary, see figure 23.
  • Page 34 Start-up 6.1 Before start up After a pump has been installed and all mechanical, hydraulic and electrical connections have been made, it is ready for commissioning. However, prior to initial start-up, the following is recommended: 6.2 Pump Priming CAUTION Never run a pump dry. Most centrifugal pumps have a mechanical seal or stuffing box, therefore they cannot be run dry under any working conditions, otherwise the sealing elements will be seriously damaged.
  • Page 35 Start-up 6.6 Engine Considerations CAUTION It is important to check before the first start-up that the technical specifications of the motor, which come on the nameplate, correspond to the technical characteristics required by the pump and those of the place where the motor is going to operate. Verify that: •...
  • Page 36 Start-up Motors with 6 wires can be started using a Star/Delta splitter only if the supply line voltage is equal to the minimum voltage shown on the nameplate, between the two values specified by the manufacturer. To make the star-delta connection, in the motor box, all jumpers are removed, leaving the terminals free.
  • Page 37: System Considerations

Start-up 6.8 Start-up Check List 6.8.1 Before Start-up 6.8.1.1 Personnel Considerations The personnel responsible for commissioning, operation, maintenance, inspection and assembly must be suitably qualified and authorized. The scope of responsibility and supervision of the personnel must be precisely defined by the plant operator. The plant operator must ensure that the operating instructions are fully understood by the personnel.
  • Page 38: Maintenance

Due to the large number of greases that are available on the market and the differences that may exist in the lubricating properties of apparently identical greases that have been manufactured at different locations, VOGT S.A. or the bearing manufacturers cannot assume any responsibility for the lubricant used or its performance.

    · Packing press. The sealing systems used in VOGT multistage pumps, both in the suction pump casing and in the discharge pump casing, are mechanical seals or stuffing boxes. In both cases dry running of the pump must be avoided.
  • Page 44: Mechanical Seal

7.6.1 Mechanical Seal The mechanical seals used as standard in the L series pumps are of the unbalanced internal single spring type. This spring produces the minimum contact force between the sealing surfaces of the rotating and stationary units. The stationary unit is mounted on the union body in an elastomer cup.
