    3.3 Commissioning 3.3.1 Cables and connections The SPU is the central control unit of the system, i.e. the cables of all other devices are connected to this device.     4. Operation 4.1 Positioning of the specimens Depending on the actual height of the specimens to be viewed under the microscope, the height- adjustable camera/illumination head has to be brought into a suitable position. To do this, use the turning device attached to the upper end of the rail. A scale on the front of the rail shows you the ideal setting height for the respective specimen height.

    4.3 Operation of the lighting The SCALEREO-Desk system is equipped with a very helpful and variable multi-segment lighting unit. In addition, the lighting can be steplessly dimmed. All lighting settings can be changed with the lighting buttons on the ControlBar. 4.3.1 Lighting mode Use the middle button to switch through the different lighting modes until you have found a mode that suits your application.

    4.4 Operation of camera functions The system is equipped with a very reliable and convenient automatic focus system. This auto- matically performs an auto-focus adjustment with each zoom operation. This function not only adjusts the focal point, or the plane of focus, but also optimises the alignment of the two stereo images to each other, so that a natural and convenient 3D image is obtained on the 3D display.

    4.5 Headtracking system It is not necessary to operate the headtracking system or change the settings as the system works autonomously in the background and optimised settings are already stored ex works. Depending on the current use and personal preferences, however, different headtracking modes may be found to be ideal.
