Did you notice that when you said the keyword, that your TV went silent? This is a feature called Automute (patent pending). The SurfBoard muted your TV briefly to quiet the room noise so that it can better understand the voice command that you say after the keyword.
This is because there might have been a background noise that you didn’t notice such as a door closing, or a car horn. The SurfBoard remote must hear a similar sounding command two times in a row or it will ask you to repeat the command again.

Additional Buttons To add to the power of the SurfBoard remote, each button can provide an additional function through the use of the [SHIFT] button. These buttons may have codes from the library but they can also be used for additional learned buttons. To access the shifted buttons, briefly press the [SHIFT] button and then press the desired front button.
I want to control power on my cable box. A few holdouts still plug their TV’s power cord into the back of their cable box. You can tell the SurfBoard to switch the cable box on and off rather than the TV as follows.
