OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE FIRST USE Read and remove all packing materials and stickers from the inside and outside of the Chefman Warming Urn except for rating label on bottom and other stickers that ® state they should remain on unit. Be sure that all accessories are accounted for before throwing away any packaging. Gently wipe the exterior and interior of the urn and the lid and tray with a clean, damp cloth and dry thoroughly. To clean the urn of packaging residue, bring one tankful of water to a boil following the directions below. Be sure to dispense some hot water through the urn’s faucet. Let water cool then discard water and dry well. HOW TO USE THE URN IN WEEKDAY MODE Although the Chefman Warming Urn was specially designed for use on Shabbos, you can ® use it all week long. When power is turned on, the Weekday Mode is the default mode. NOTE: This appliance is intended for water only. Using liquids other than water can damage the unit. Place unit on a flat surface and attach cord if not already in place. Using another vessel, such as a jug, fill the tank with water; do not exceed the Max line shown inside tank. WARNINGS: Do not fill the urn under a running sink faucet as overfilling can damage the unit. Do not fill the tank past the Max line, which can be both dangerous and cause damage to the unit.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Lock the lid into place by positioning it on top of urn and turning the lid clockwise as arrows indicate, until the handles of the lid align with the handles of the urn and lid is secure. Plug in unit then Press the On/Off button to turn it on. The water will immediately begin to heat. The LED display will show the word Boil in blue (it will blink briefly before becoming steady). NOTE: You may notice a plastic smell the first time you use the urn. This is normal and will fade over time. Once the water is heated, the Boil light will turn off and the display will show the word Ready in white. During this time, the urn will be in a keep warm mode. It will automatically return to boil mode (and Boil will display in blue) when water temperature drops. NOTE: If a brief power outage occurs, the unit will return to Weekday Mode when power is restored. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS SAFETY FEATURES IN WEEKDAY MODE Low Water Warning If the word Low lights up on the display (it will be red), it means the water level has dropped too low. Should this occur, you need only to turn the unit off; it does not need to be unplugged. To resume heating, add water and press On; the unit will return to heating. If no water is added, the unit will remain in the low water warning mode without heating. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 7. To dispense hot water, position a heatproof cup or other container under faucet. Unlock the faucet by pressing and holding the red child safety lock on its side, then lift faucet handle up or down. WARNING: Water is hot; use care when dispensing water from the faucet and use a heatproof cup or container. 8. To place food on the urn, secure the included tray on top of the lid, then place the food on top of the tray. Liquidy foods may be placed on the tray before Shabbos; dry foods may be placed on Shabbos. 9. During Yom Tov, the urn may be refilled as needed. The sophisticated algorithm initiated when in Shabbos Mode is programmed to make it halachically permissible. WARNING: Use care when removing the lid to add water as there may be hot steam as well as hot water accumulated on the inside of the lid, which can cause injury. SAFETY FEATURES IN SHABBOS MODE Boil Dry Protection During Shabbos Mode, the low water warning will never be triggered. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE Cleaning the Chefman Warming Urn is easy, usually requiring little more than rinsing and ® drying. 1. After using the urn, unplug it and allow it to cool completely. Remove the power cord before cleaning and be sure that the socket is kept dry. 2. Carefully discard any remaining water from the tank being sure not to get display area of tank wet. NOTE: Any water left in the tank can cause an unpleasant odor and mineral deposits. 3. Wipe the exterior and interior with a soft, damp cloth. Do NOT use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads on the inside or outside or you may damage the unit. WARNING: Do NOT immerse the appliance in water. 4. Hand wash the urn tank, lid, and tray with soap and water and dry well. The lid is also top- rack dishwasher safe; the tray is not. 5. Be sure the unit is completely dry before storing.
Page 17
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE DECALCIFYING INSTRUCTIONS Due to minerals in water, deposits may form on the base of the tank and cause discoloration. The deposits are not dangerous to ingest, but they can affect looks and performance of the urn. To get the best performance from your urn, decalcify it from time to time. How often you decalcify your urn depends on the hardness of your water and how often you use the urn. 1. Fill the tank past the low-water sensor (located toward the bottom of the pot) with equal parts water and white vinegar NOTE: For best results, use filtered, non-tap water for cleaning. 2. Bring the water and vinegar to a boil in the urn following the directions on p. 8. 3. Be sure to run ample water through the faucet to eliminate any mineral buildup there. 4. Unplug the unit, let solution cool to room temperature, then discard liquid. 5. Carefully rinse interior with fresh water. 6. Bring fresh water to a boil in urn. Be sure to run water though the faucet to rinse it. 7. Let remaining water in the tank cool, then discard. 8. Dry urn thoroughly before storing.
