Some
balFpoint,
felt tip and
liquid
inks may
be impossible
to
remove. Washing
may set
some types
of
ink.
Try
a
pretreatment method
using
a
prewash stain
remover,
denatured alcohol or
nonflammable
dry
cleaning
fluid.
First
sponge
the
area around stain
with stain remover
before applying it
directly on the stain. Place
stain face
down
on clean
papertowels.
Apply denatured
alcoholor nonflammable
dry
cleaning
fluid to
back
of stain.
Replace
paper towels under stain
frequently.
Badly
mildewed fabrics may be damaged beyond
repair.
Wash stained items
using
a
chlorine bleach
if
safe
for fabric.
lf
not, soak in oxygen bleach
and hot
water, then wash.
Mildew,
scorch
When dry, brush
off
as much
as
possible.
Pretreat
with
a
liquid detergent or
a
paste
of granular detergent
and
water. For heavy stains,
pretreat or presoak
with
detergent or
a
product containing
enzymes.
Mud
Pretreat
with prewash stain remover. Wash using a bleach safe
for fabric
Mustard
Nail
polish May be impossible
to remove. Try
nail polish
remover, but do not
use
on acetate
or iriacetate fabrics.
Place
stain face
down on
clean paper towels. Apply
nail
polish remover
to
back
of
stain. Replace
paper towels under stain
frequently.
Repeat
until
stain disappears
or
lightens.
Paint WATER
BASED: Rinse
fabric
in
cool
water while
stains are
stillwet, then
wash.
Once
paint
is
dry,
it cannot be removed.
OIL BASED
AND VARNISH: Use
the same
solvent the paint can
label advises
for
a
thinner. lf label
is
not available,
use
turpentine.
Rinse
thoroughly. Pretreat
with
prewash stain remover,
bar soap
or laundry detergent.
Pretreat
with prewash stain remover
or liquid laundry
detergent
Perfume
Use
a
prewash stain remover or rub
with
bar soap.
lf
perspiration
has
changed
the color
of
the fabric, apply either ammonia to fresh
stains
or
white vinegar
to
old stains. Rinse.
Wash using hottest
water
safe
for fabrrc. Stubborn stains
may
respond to washing
with nonchlorine bleach in hottest
water
safe
for fabric.
Perspiration
For
spots,
use
rust stain remover
following
instructions. lf rust remover
contains
hydrofluoric acid, do
not
use near
washer
or dryer
as
it
will
damage
finish.
For
rust discoloration
of
an
entire load,
wash
using a phosphate detergent and
a
nonchlorine bleach.
Rust
LIQUID: Pretreat
with
a
paste made of
granular detergent and water.
PASTE: Scrape
residue
f
rom fabric
with
a
dull knife. Pretreat
with
a
prewash
stain
remover or
nonflammable
dry
cleaning
fluid.
Rinse. Rub
detergent into
dampened
area.
Wash using bleach safe
for fabric.
Shoe Polish
Tar
Scrape
residue
from
fabric.
Place
stain face
down on paper towels. Sponge
with
nonilammable dry
cleaning
fluid.
Replace
paper towels frequently
to
absorb
more tar
and
to
avoid transferring stains.
Wash in hottest
water
safe
for fabric.
Tobacco
Dampen stain and rub
with
bar soap, rinse. Pretreat
or
soak
in
a
product
containing enzymes.
lf
stain remains,
wash again using bleach safe
for fabric.
Typewriter correction
f
luid Let stain dry
thoroughly. Gently brush
excess
off
with
a
clothes brush.
Send
to
professional
dry cleaner
and identify the type
of
stain.
Urine,
vomit, mucus,
feces
Pretreat

in product containing
enzymes.
