    Installation Unpacking The Dura-Dry II MP is packed and shipped complete with vacuum pump in its own carton. Certain items, such as a Liquid Nitrogen Trap, will be shipped in a separate container. Remove from the packing material and make a visual inspection for shipping damage.

The serial tag at the rear of each system has the voltage requirements for that system. The voltage tolerance for this system is +/-5%. These tolerances are necessary because of the lower temperature specifications of these units.

    Liquid Nitrogen Trap This trap is sold as an option and may not be included with your unit. The liquid nitrogen trap (LNT) is connected to a freeze-dryer when it is important to trap high vapor pressure solvents. Typically these solvents come off of product early in the cycle. During this time the LNT can be valved so it is on line .

    Nitrogen Trap Operator’s Manual: Dura Dry II Operation LNT on-line: 1. Open the inlet and the outlet valves while making certain the by-pass valve is closed. 2. Pour liquid nitrogen into the center pot. There should be liquid nitrogen in the center pot whenever the LNT is on-line and trapping high vapor pressure solvents.

    Module. 1. At the top of the Dura-Dry II MP Condenser Module is a test plug that is inserted into a black rubber grommet. Remove the test plug by moving it side to side while pulling up. Avoid using a rotational movement as this may cause the black rubber grommet to come out of round.

    Operator’s Manual: Dura Dry II Installation 1. Remove the 2½-inch stainless steel plug from the Dura-Dry II MP Condenser Module. 2. Grease the bottom of the CA-3 port. 3. Insert the CA-3 into the port on the top of the Dura-Dry through the black rubber grommet.

    All FTS flaskware is manufactured with this lip. If you are using another manufacturer’s flaskware, you ma be able to introduce it into the Quick-Vac Valve with no difficulty. FTS also manufactures Quick-Vac Valves that accept flaskware with ¾ inch OD necks. These are called QV-2 Valves and can be purchased directly from FTS at 800.251.1531.

    Maintenance Periodic maintenance of your freeze-dryer will lead to enhanced performance and help avoid difficulties during a freeze-drying cycle. It will also result in increasing the life of the freeze-dryer. Maintenance should be performed a minimum of 4 times a year. Because system use and application varies from one facility to another you may have to perform system maintenance substantially more often.
  • Page 27 Maintenance Operator’s Manual: Dura Dry II Tubing All vacuum tubes must be periodically checked for cracks and leaks. The tubing ends of drain lines can contribute to leakage. Periodically, they need to be cut in order to remove dried, cracked, and stretched sections caused by insertion of the larger drain plug.

    The FTS Service Division was founded in January of 1971. Our technicians are fully trained to service all electrical, refrigeration, liquid, vacuum, air, and vapor control systems manufactured and sold by FTS. We service all FTS products throughout the world from our home office located at the FTS manufacturing facility in Stone Ridge, New York.

    Operator’s Manual: Dura Dry II Standard Warranty The FTS standard domestic warranty follows. This warranty covers parts and labor for a period of one year, commencing the date of invoice, for any repairs deemed resultant of a defect in materials and/or workmanship by FTS, F.O.B. Stone Ridge.

    This plan provides our customers with two onsite visits per year. We would perform a thorough preventative maintenance on your FTS equipment. You will be provided with a PM checklist and a certificate of calibration, which is traceable to N.I.S.T. The purchase of this plan also provides discounted parts and labor rate for additional service if required.

    Before working on systems that are not under warranty, the Service Division will provide you with an estimate of the time and cost for the repair of your unit. No work will be started until FTS receives a hardcopy of your purchase order for the repair work. This also applies to warranty work when the customer is responsible for the shipping costs.
