7PR enables the real-time playback and dissolving of high-quality video. Multitude of external control functions In addition to the supplied keyboard and mouse interface, the DV-7PR can also be used with a standard RS-232C, the optional controller DV-7C (sold separately), USB compatible UM series MIDI interfaces such as the UM-1, or MIDI keyboard PCR-50 for a variety of control methods to meet your video presentation needs.

Other precautions About the hard disk The DV-7PR uses all visual and system data stored to the internal hard disk memory. This hard disk is of a consumable structure, and its longevity may be unexpectedly shortened depending on how you use it. To prevent loss of your valuable composition, be adviced to follow the instructions below.

DV-7PR is to be used. When using the unit in Japan or North America, set the switch to 115. When using the unit in Europe or the Oceania region, set the switch to 230.
Installing and Connecting the Unit First, connect the video and audio equipment for output and monitoring, the display for user interface, and so on. Before making the connections, be sure to switch off the power to all equipment. With this unit you can control other external connected DV-7PRs. You can start/stop clip playbacks, select palletes and video clips, set the overlap periods (dissolve time, p. 47), turn on/off audio effects. For closer information regarding external connected DV-7PR control, refer to “Controlling another DV-7PR (Presenter)” (p. 89).

Operation flow To operate this unit, you mainly use the mouse and keyboard while watching the monitor display. Introduction Play back. At the Play Mode screen, the thumbnail area where the material is lined up is called a palette, and each material is called a video clip. Choose a video clip from the palette for playback. You can also change palettes for other playback selections.

Introduction Import material. This operation is performed in the Edit Mode. Import new material. Right-click a material in the Materials list and select “Import material from disks”. • Material name • Length The length of the material. • Created The date the material was imported into the DV-7PR. • Modified The last date a change was made to the material. • Recorded If the material was recorded with a DV camera, the date the material was recorded.
Utility This window appears when you select “Utility” at the Selector window (p.29). You can sort out your projects inside the hard disk (p.41). You can also do the same operation at the dialog box that opens when you click “Open” in the top of the Play Mode or Edit Mode screen.
* When “Turn On/Off using External power-line switch” is selected, do not use the POWER button on the DV-7PR to turn on and off the DV-7PR. If you do use the POWER button to turn off the DV-7PR, then to turn the DV-7PR back on, you will need to use the POWER button again.
You can also turn on the power of this unit using an external switch. To turn on the power of the DV-7PR without using the [POWER] button of this unit, refer to “Turning on/off the power using an external switch”...

The project is the most basic object for management of this unit. What is a project? With the DV-7PR, the project is the most basic object for management of your audio and video files. Projects can be used by both the Presenter and Editor applications. Material can be imported to a project, and then that imported material can be played back in real-time using Presenter or edited using Editor.
Introduction Creating a project To create a new project. Click “Open” in the top of the Play Mode (page 30) or Edit Mode (page 34) screen. The “Open” dialog box appears. fig.open.selected Disks list Choose the disk in which to create the new project from the Disks list. Click the [New] button.
Opening a project To open an existing project. Click “Open” in the top of the Play Mode (p.30) or Edit Mode (p.34) screen. The “Open” dialog box appears. fig.open.selected Disks list Choose the disk that contains the project from the Disks list. Choose the desired project from the Projects list.
Introduction Playing a video clip When you turn on the power of your DV-7PR and click the [Presenter] button on Selector, the Play Mode screen appears. Open the desired project to playback (p.43). Playing a video clip using the mouse Click on the thumbnail of the video clip in the palette area to start the playback.
To move to the in/out point of a video clip The starting point is called in point, and the ending point is called out point. Click the Set in point, and clip continues to play from the moved point. When clicked during pause, the video clip stays paused at the moved point.
Introduction Turning on/off parameter displays You can turn on/off the parameter displays. Right-click on the program output monitor to call up the following menu. fig.play.default Mark these items to display. Unmark them to hide the display. Turning on/off automatic changeover of palettes When you set to show a video clip of a palette different from the current, at some cases such as using external controls or when the automatic video clip playback is set, you can select from either set the palette to remain on display, or to switch palettes at certain video clips’...
Changing palettes Click on a palette in the Palettes list to change palettes. fig.play.default You can edit the palettes at the Edit Mode (p.34), such as changing the order in the list, changing the names, and so on. Introduction Click on one video clip in the palette area to start its playback. Click on another video clip to start the dissolve. You can set the dissolve time to each video clip (p.67). In this case, the dissolve time is displayed in the right hand of each video clip.
Using the [T Bar] slider to play two video clips simultaneously You can play two video clips simultaneously, and use the [T Bar] slider to adjust the mixture rate between the two. You cannot use this function when the [Audio] button is lit. In this case, click the [Audio] button to use the [T Bar] slider.

Introduction In the palette area, click on the other video clip to be played to start its playback. This video clip will be assigned to the side of the slider from which the lever is farthest. Using video effects You can insert video effect to the final output image. Operate this function at the Play Mode (p.30). You can assign effects to each of the four buttons, and switch on/off the effects. fig.play.default Right-click one of the [VFX 1–4] buttons. A list of assignable effects appears.
Introduction Assigning material to a palette Lay out video clips on the palette. You can assign material as video clips. Choose the material from the Material list. Operate this function at the Edit Mode (page 34). fig.play.default Palletes list Clips list Change to the Edit Mode.
Importing material from another project You can assign material from not only the current project but also from other projects. For more information regarding the operation, refer to “Importing material from a different project” (p. 71). Using video sources connected to the V-4 as video clips By connecting the V-4 (Video mixer), you can also use signals via external devices connected to the V-4 such as video decks as materials.
Introduction Saving a project Click the [Save] button at the top of the screen. This saves the changes you have made. fig.play.default You cannot change the name and save the changes. For more information regarding backing up projects, refer to “Copying projects” (p. 75)” and “Changing the name of a project” (p. 76). Undoing the project setting If you want to undo settings that you have changed (return it to its previous condition), click the [Open] button and open the project again.
Using the V-LINK Using the V-LINK ( with musical performance. Use the MIDI interface to connect a MIDI compatible device with your DV-7PR and press the V-LINK button on the MIDI device. You can now control the Presenter easily. fig.stage Connection example...

Introduction To learn more about the capability condition of the MIDI devices, refer to their Instruction manuals. Also, for information regarding MIDI control without using the V-LINK, refer to “Using Presenter with MIDI control” (p. 77) in the Operation section. When the Presenter receives the V-LINK ON message from the system exclusive of the MIDI device, the V-LINK function turns ON, and thus is enabled to be setup and controlled vis V-LINK messages.
Operation Project settings At the Edit Mode of the Presenter you can set up your projects more precisely. You can perform the following settings. Edit palettes You can change the names and sequence of palettes, and erase video clips from palettes. Change the settings of palettes You can set the loop mode to all video clips in a palette at the same time.
Operation Editing a palette You can change the names and sequence of palettes, and erase video clips from palettes. Right-click on the palette you wish to edit, and the context menu appears. fig.play.default Context menu Palettes list Changing the palette name Right-click the palette with the name that you wish to change in the Palettes list.
Setting a palette You can set the loop mode to all video clips in a palette at the same time. You can set a video clip to repeat itself, to play in sequence, or to play at selection. This function is useful when you wish the video clips in the palette to play automatically in the selected order.
Operation Editing a video clip You can change the names and sequence of video clips, and copy or erase them. Right-click on the video clip you wish to edit, and the context menu appears. fig.play.default Clips list Changing the name of a video clip You can change the video clip name independent of the material.
Moving a video clip to another location or palette Right-click on the video clip in the Clips list that you wish to move. A context menu appears. Choose [Cut] from the menu that appears. Right-click at the location on the palette (or other palette) where you wish to move the cut video clip.
Operation Editing video clips at the Palette window You can edit the video clips at the Palette window. Right-click on the Palettes list. The context menu appears. Select [Open palette window]. Operation Move the preview cursor by one of the methods given below. Drag the preview cursor using the mouse You can also scrub play the video clip by dragging the preview cursor using the mouse (you can also hear the voice). Operation Using the DV-7C (sold separately) • : Sets an in point • : Sets an out point • : Playback between In and Out points When you set an in point, the in point is automatically set as the video clip thumbnail. If you right-click on the time slider again and choose [Set thumbnail frame] from the menu that appears, you can set any frame as the thumbnail for each video clip.
Select [Set Thumbnail frame] to define the image of the thumbnail. Setting the loop mode for each video clip Set the loop mode for each video clip. You can set the video clip to repeat itself, or set the following video clip to start playback at the end of the previous video clip.
Operation Setting the color correction on each video clip You can set the color correction on each video clip. You can balance the color gradations and brightness between related video clips, or assign a number of the same material as video clips in different color gradations to produce a variation of the same image.
Changing the material settings You can change the names of materials, and copy or erase them. To change the settings of the material, right-click on the material you wish to change the settings, and select the desired item from the context menu. fig.play.default Changing the name of a material Right-click on the material on the Materials list for which you wish to change the name.

Setting a video clip to playback automatically You can set a video clip to start playback whenever the project that holds it is called up.
Importing materials Importing material from a different project You can import materials from other projects. Right-click on the material in the Materials list to which you wish to import. Choose [Import material from disks ] from the menu that appears. The Import materials dialog box appears.
Operation Importing materials from a video deck Using the Editor, you can import materials from external connected devices such as a video deck. In this case, you can launch the Editor directly from the Presenter. Right-click in the Materials list, and select [Capture new material]. Editor starts up, and the capture screen appears.
Editing the materials You can edit your materials at the Editor. In this case, you can launch the Editor directly from the Presenter. Right-click on the Materials list, and select [Start Editor]. Operation Press the eject button on the DV-7PR front panel to open the tray of the CD-ROM drive. Place the disc containing the material on the disc tray and press the eject button to close the tray. After the sound of the disk motor of the CD-ROM drive stops, right-click on the Materials list, and select [Import material from disks] from the context menu.
Managing your projects Follow the procedures given below to perform operations such as copying projects, changing the project names, and more. Operation Changing the name of a project Click the [Utility] button of Selector. The Utility window appears. Select the disk in the Disks list in which the desired project is located. Right-click on the project in the Projects list for which you wish to change the name. The context menu appears.
Using Presenter with MIDI control Instead of the keyboard and mouse, there are a number of methods using external devices that are available for controlling the DV-7PR. The control methods given here are only effective for control the Presenter application. For information regarding controlling the Editor application, refer to the DV-7 and DV-7C instruction manuals.

If you wish to control video clip playback using the Time Trip Pad from a V-Synthesizer, set the MIDI message at the pull-down menu (if the checkbox is not marked, it cannot be controlled using the MIDI device). Control the Time Trip Pad with the selected MIDI message. You can control the video playback with the Time Trip Pad.
Operation Controlling the color and brightness Perform the MIDI preference settings. These settings are retained independent of the project. With these settings, you can perform the operation given below. Cb/Cr color-difference adjustment Control the Cb and Cr color-difference signals. The operations are at the following Step 3 (for color Cb) and Step 4 (for color Cr).

UM-1 using a MIDI cable, you can also connect the separately-sold USB compatible keyboards such as the PC-300, PCR-30, PCR-50 directly to the DV-7PR. To connect the PC- 300, PCR-30, or PCR-50, use a USB cable and connect it to the [REMOTE] jack on the DV-7PR rear panel.

In the 49-key MIDI Keyboard Mode, a video clip is assigned to each one of the ivory (white) keys on the 49-key keyboard. The palette area in the Play Mode screen and the palette window in the Edit Mode screen change from 4 rows, 8 columns to 4 rows, 7 columns with each row corresponding to one octave on the keyboard.
The Presenter can receive System Exclusive Message from other MIDI devices. You can set the Device ID from which to receive the messages. When controlling your DV-7PR from another DV-7PR, set the Device ID at the “DV-7PR Control” of the MIDI Preferences of the sender to correspond with the receiver.
MIDI cable to the MIDI OUT interface of this unit (master), and to the MIDI IN interface of the slave DV-7PR. When controlling another DV-7PR, first launch the slave DV-7PR Presenter and set the Device ID at the “System Exclusive Message” of the MIDI Preference (p. 88). Then perform the master setting as follows.
Operation Controlling the V-4 Using the separately sold V-4, you can use the external video input from the V-4 as video clips on this unit. You can also use external MIDI devices to control the V-4 video effects, or control the output fade to the final image output.

Set the MIDI message you will control the video effects with the “VFX 1 Control” pull-down menu in the V-4 Control (if “OFF” selected, it cannot be controlled using the MIDI device). Operation Controlling the AR series You can also MIDI control the Roland AR series such as the AR-3000. Each video clip, as they playback, send out messages from the MIDI OUT interface such as Program Change and Note On Message. You can change the AR series phrase playback simply by changing video clips.
With the separately sold DV-7C, you can control the video clips using the controller for a more intuitive control. To connect the DV-7C, use the cable supplied with the DV-7C and connect it to the [REMOTE] jack on the DV-7PR rear panel. Be sure to turn off all the devices before making the connections.

Using the DV-7C as a deck controller At Play Mode, you can assign the DV-7C to function as a video deck controller. At the Selector window, click the [System Preferences] button. The System Preferences window (p. 38) appears. Mark the “Type 2 ” checkbox in the “DV-7C (Presenter)” area. fig.sysprefs The buttons are assigned decklike as shown below.
By connecting a computer, touch panel, or other external controller to the [RS-232C] terminal on the rear panel of the DV-7PR, you can use the external device to select palettes, start and stop video clips, and turn off the power.
Setting the system preferences Set the system preferences such as the screen or for using the touch panel display. Perform this operation at the System Preferences window. fig.sysprefs Clearing a jittery monitor About the refresh rate of the operation display You can change the the screen refreshing rate on the DV-7R.
When this setting is selected, do not use the POWER button on the DV-7PR to turn on and off the DV-7PR. If you do use the POWER button to turn off the DV-7PR, then to turn the DV-7PR back on, you will need to use the POWER button again.
Using the touch panel dislpay, you can control this unit with a direct touch on the touch panel display. Connect the control jack of the touch panel display and the [RS-232C] jack on the rear panel of the DV-7PR with the cable supplied with the display, and connect the display jack with a VGA cable.

RS-232C command reference (Presenter) For information regarding the RS-232C settings, refer to “Using the RS-232C interface” (p. 96). Command overview A command basically consists of a ASCII code sequence containing “stx,” two alphabet characters, and a semicolon (“;”). The two alphabet characters show the command type. Arguments can be added to the command and they are separated from the two alphabet characters with a colon (“:”) and multiple arguments are themselves separated by commas (“,”).
Commands sent from an external device to Presenter * The commands stx (02H), ACK (06H), and Xon (11H)/Xoff (13H) are control codes. Select video clip atxPA:a,b; a: Palette number (0 to 19) b: Clip number (0 to 31) Send the palette number and clip number for the video clip that you wish to play back. If Presenter correctly receives the command, it returns ACK.
Sent when Presenter could not properly process command received. Version information request stxVR:”a”,”b”,”c”; a: Machine name (DV-7PR) b: Version c: Reserved (fixed at 2 spaces between quotation marks) Sent when Presenter receives VR command. Version information is an ASCII character string.
