  • Page 8 Z-Metering of single thermoelements is a unique and precise technique, the possibility of which is implemented in the device DX4091. The accuracy of measurements using the Z-Meter DX4091 largely depends on the correct and accurate preparation of samples for measurements. Methods and recommendations for the preparation of samples are given in section 3.2 of the Manual.

    Z-Meter DX4091/ User Guide PL Engineering Ltd 2.4. Design overview The Z-Meter is a single-channel device with internal chamber for placement of test frame with mounted pellet sample. Chamber’s cover is magnetically locked when closed or opened. The internal chamber is a passive thermostat which provides constant temperature during measurements.

    Z-Meter DX4091/ User Guide PL Engineering Ltd 2.6. System Requirements The Z-Meter requires connection to a PC and installation of “Z-Meter” software. The software is delivered along with Z-Meters or may be downloaded from website: www.promln.ru. The interface is simple and does not require User's special knowledge or strong experience.

    So it is not necessary to install the drivers separately. 3.1.2. Software Installation Copy installation Setup file (Z-Meter DX4091 (1.0.1.1) Setup) to PC or insert the CD/flash to a PC and start the Setup program. The window of the standard Windows installer will appear – see below.

These are measurement corrections for measurements because of: thermal conductivity of contact wires, convection heat exchange thermal radiation heat exchange.

    3.2. Sample preparation 3.2.1. Samples for measurements The advantage of the developed technique and this Z-Meter DX4091 lies in the fact that for measuring thermoelectric parameters there is no need to prepare special test samples. Measurements are carried out on working thermoelements, from which serial thermoelectric modules are directly manufactured.

    3.2.2. Auxiliary tool and materials The accuracy of measurements using this Z-Meter DX4091 depends on the accuracy of the preparation of the samples for measurements. To provide this, testing samples must be mounted on a special test frame.

Note! accuracy measurements subsequently depends on the accuracy and completeness of flux removal. The sample measuring frame prepared in this way is shown in the figure.

    Use the cable to the USB port of the computer. Start the program DX4091.exe If the computer is turned on, the connection of the Z-Meter DX4091 will be automatically determined.   • Page 30 Z-Meter DX4091/ User Guide PL Engineering Ltd Insert the test frame with soldered pellet sample into the Z-Meter holder. Note! Please, be sure that pellet sample is located over spot heater. It is important for sample polarity (n- or p-type definition) testing.
  • Page 31 Z-Meter DX4091/ User Guide PL Engineering Ltd Set the required initial parameters for measurements in the program window: a) Set the geometric dimensions of the sample to be measured, namely cross-section (a, b or dia. a) and height (h) in millimetres.

Enter the desired sample geometry in millimeters to a maximum of 3 characters, and press «OK». Important! If you enter the value b = 0 (equal to zero), then the program interprets this as a sample of a circular section with a diameter equal to the value a.

    Disconnect the Z-Meter from the computer or turn off the computer. MAINTENANCE The Z-Meter DX4091 does not require any particular maintenance or service. Nevertheless if for any reason you feel doubtful about the device accuracy, you can check it by measuring a precision resistor in verification frame.
