INSTALLATION AND OPERATION
GETTING STARTED
The unit is shipped charged from the factory, however the battery charge
level may decrease over time during the shipment and storage.
First time use and each time the product has been in storage for 1 month or more:
• For best results, before use, allow unit to charge for 8 to 10 hours if
charging outdoors and 16 to 20 hours if charging indoors behind a window.
• Leave switch in "on" position while performing the initial cha rge.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Carefully choose the mounting location of your solar panel so that it will
receive the maximum amount of direct sunlight. It is best to have the
front panel facing the sun.
For best results, it should receive 8 to 10 hours
of sunlight. If the panel only receives a few hours of sunlight or is shaded
for part of or the full day, illumination time at night will be shortened.
2. It is also important that it be positioned away from outside lights, such as
street lights, post lights and spot lights, as this will trick the unit into
thinking it is daylight and not turn its own lights on.
3. Push the stake into the ground until the ring on top of the stake is flush
with the surface of the ground. If ground is hard, packed or frozen, pour
warm water over the area and/or dig slightly and refill with loose soil to
avoid breaking the stake (see Fig. 1).
4. Attach plastic cylinder on the back of the solar panel (see Fig. 2).
5. Push the other end of the plastic cylinder onto the stake (see Fig. 3).
6. When storing the product at the end of the season, please make sure the
selector switch is in the "o " position or the battery may have reduced
performance or may be permanently damaged by the next time the unit is
used.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
For best results, the solar battery should be replaced every 12 months.
ONLY replace the battery with a similar solar rechargeable Ni-MH battery
with the same mAh rating.
1. Unscrew the screws on the solar panel.
2. Carefully remove the old battery from the battery compartement.
3. Replace battery with an equivalent new solar rechargeable
battery, ensuring the correct polarity is observed.
4. Re-assemble the unit by reversing the above procedure.
5. Allow the unit to charge following First time use above.
CAUTION: Rechargeable batteries contain Nickel-Cadmium or Nickel-Metal
Hydride and must be recycled or disposed of properly.
Do not dispose of batteries in fire. Batteries may explode or leak.
Dispose of used batties in accordance with local or provincial guidelines.
