3.2.4 Connection in BOOT

BOOTLOADER mode allows the user to make a physical connection with the
microprocessor of the ECU of the vehicle, as the necessary opening of the control unit
gives the user close access to the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). For this reason, the
BOOT connection is used to allow the recovery of damaged or corrupt control units or
in cases when the BENCH mode is not supported for the selected protocol.
The direct connection to the microprocessor allows you to read and write the complete
content of all the memories inside it: the Internal Flash and Internal EEPROM and the
External Flash and External EEPROM.
FLEX supports different types of bootloader which are divided into different connection
modes based on the family of the microprocessor installed in the ECU of the vehicle,
such as to name a few:
JTAG Renesas SH705x / SH725xx;
BDM MOTOROLA MPC5xx ;
BL Infineon TC17xx ;
BL Nexus Freescale ;
AUD NEC 76F00xx ;
BL ST10F2xx ;
BL Siemens C167.
The complete Bootloader vehicle list can be consulted at the following link:
It is possible to completely read all the memories present in the control
unit, ensuring a full backup of the content;
In most cases, it is possible to make a copy compliant with the control
unit;
It is not possible to restore the control unit if the SW is corrupt.
