Safety Instructions and Symbols This manual contains up to three levels of safety instructions that must be observed in order to avoid personal injury and/or damage to equipment or other property. These are: DANGER Indicates a hazard that could result in death or serious bodily harm if the safety instruction is not observed.
In this manual, the term Detective-EX refers to all members of this instrument family, exceptions noted. See also Section 1.5. Other lists of nuclides can be supplied on special order. Measurements with a portable identifiers cannot take into account the counting geometry and source shielding, so the Detective-EX-100T does not determine the quantity of the detected nuclides.

SPECTRUM ANALYSIS PROGRAMS The Detective-EX is intended for completely independent operation, with no computer required. However, when you connect the Detective-EX CONTROL port to a computer running ORTEC spectroscopy applications such MAESTRO or GammaVision, you can use it as a high-perform- ance HPGe spectrometer/digital MCB.
The final step is to run the MCB Configuration pro- gram according to the instructions in the MAESTRO User’s Manual to build Master Instrument List of all ORTEC MCBs accessible to the computer. To monitor the battery time remaining from within MAESTRO, go to the Status tab under Acquire/MCB Properties..

“pump and bake” of the instrument is required at an ORTEC service center. Fortunately, you can easily avoid this problem: We strongly recommend that instruments used only occasionally be turned on once a month, fully cooled to Ready status, and allowed to run for at least 48 hours.
The typical service life of the Detective-EX internal battery is 3–5 years. When the internal battery no longer retains a charge, it must be replaced with ORTEC Part No. 798780. This is a straight-forward operation that takes just a few minutes, so the detector does not significantly warm up during the procedure.

11. CALIBRATION SOURCE STATEMENT The quantity of radioactive material contained in this product is extremely small and presents no known radiation hazard. However, it is always good practice to minimize exposure by following the basic radiation principles of time, distance, and shielding. The solid sealed source in this instrument requires no special handling.
