Introduction Congratulations on the purchase of your Toshiba ATAPI CD-ROM drive. Read carefully through this manual in order to install the drive and learn how to use it. For specification details of your CD-ROM drive, see the accompanying specification booklet.
Emergency eject Volume control Eject button Toshiba’s ATAPI CD-ROM drives are among the most advanced available today. Their features include: Tray operation. No fiddly and expensive caddy to wrestle with – just open the tray, drop in a disk and close the tray again Enhanced IDE (ATAPI) interface.
Your Toshiba CD-ROM drive is an EIDE (Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics) drive, also known as an ATAPI (ATA Packet Interface) drive. Most personal computers now use IDE or EIDE to control their disk drives. Your CD-ROM drive will work with any EIDE controller and will work with some older IDE controllers.

Each sound card requires a different cable, so you will need to tell your supplier which sound card you have and that you have a Toshiba ATAPI CD-ROM drive. Your supplier should be able to supply you with a suitable inexpensive cable.
Put the floppy disk in drive a: and type a: (if your 3.5 inch floppy drive has a different letter, for example drive B, type that letter followed by a colon) and press [Enter]. Type ATAPI and press [Enter]. The driver installation program now asks a number of questions and guides you through the installation process.
