Sharpening of knives
Together with the machine, knives of various shapes of sinte-red carbides
or of tool steel in accordance with the respective table 3b, Instruction
manual, par. 5 are supplied.
Knives of sintered carbides may be sharpened only in the manufacturing
factory.
Knives of steel can be sharpened using a jig, which is to be ordered
under the ordering number M 269.
5.7.1 Hand sharpening (stoning) of the knives
Only knives without any crambled cutting edge may be hand stoned.
Caution!
Danger of insury by the knife cutting edge when handling
or stoning it.
- Clamp the knife into the jig (1) in such a way, so that the cutting edge
(2) is aligned with the side surface of the jig (3), tighten the screw
(4), then the screw (5).
- Place the jig (A) on the grinding stone (B) in such a way, so that the
cutting edge and both wheels lie thereon. Thereafter, in moving
forward and rearward, under a slight pressure, stone the cutting
edge of the knife.
5.7.2 Machine sharpening of the knives
For the machine sharpening, the same jig is to be used as for the hand
sharpening. Sharpening is to be done on any grinding machine in
parallel with the bottom side of the gig. Hereinafter, sharpening on a
flat horizontal grinding maschine with magnetic clamping is described.
Such grinding machine is a normal outfit of many engineering plants
or grinding shops.
Caution!
Danger of injury by the knife cutting edge when handling
or sharpening it.
- Clamp the knife into the jig (1) in such a way, so that the cutting edge
(2) is aligned with the side surface of the jig (3), tighten the screw
(4), then the screw (5).
- Clamp the jig (A) on the magnetic table of the grinding machine (B)
and sharpen the cutting edge,
- Sharpen the bevel of 1.2 mm; 45°according to the illustration.
When sharpening the knife, a sufficient cooling is to be
used, otherwise , excessive heating of the sharpening
edge and so the destruction of the whole knife would
occur.
