Deck surfaces that
are more than
23-5/8" above the
ground require a
railing or guard.
Consult applicable
building codes that
set out the
requirements for
certain minimum
sizes, heights and
construction details.
Installation

Install deck posts to support the railing. Spacing
from inside edge to inside edge should be a
maximum of 6' for pressure treated posts and a
maximum of 3'7" for cedar posts. The actual
spacing will depend on how the deck post is
fastened to the deck. Consult local building codes
or a recognized building professional.

Cut the drilled rails to the distance between the two
posts less 1/2", to allow for clips.

Attach a Four-Sided Clip
to each end of the
bottom rail with two
screws through the
pre-drilled holes
[Figure 1].

Set the bottom rail at the
desired height,
conforming to building
code requirements. (A
space of 1" between the
bottom of the bottom rail
and the deck surface is
recommended.) Check
for level. Fasten the
bottom rail to the posts
with three screws
through the pre-drilled
holes in the Four-Sided
clips [Figure 2].

Insert a capped baluster into each drilled hole of the
bottom rail. (The kit includes 15 capped balusters for
a 6-foot length of drilled rail.)

Attach an Open-Ended
1.5"
Clip to each end of the
0.75"
top rail with two screws
through the pre-drilled
holes [Figure 3].

Invert the drilled top rail
and slide on top of the
standing balusters.

Fasten the top rail to the
posts with three screws
through the pre-drilled
holes in the in the
0.75"
Open-Ended clips
[Figure 4].

To complete the railing
section, fasten a 2x4
trimmed to length on top
of the top rail, using
screws spaced at 6"
centre to centre.
