·UNX-05 description (PC programming interface cable: Option) The UNX-05 is required to interface the A-80 with the computer. It has a circuit in its D-sub connector (9-pin) case that converts the RS-232C logic level to the TTL level. The UNX-05 connects the side panel jacks of the A-80 to the computer’s RS-232C serial port.
If data is transferred to the transceiver from a personal computer with software provide by ABELL, the destination data (basic radio information) for each set can be modified. Normally, it is not necessary to modify the destination data because their values are determined automatically when the frequency range (frequency type) is set.

A-80 VHF SERVICE MANUAL CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION 1. Frequency configuration The receiver utilizes double conversion. The first IF is 45.05MHz and the second IF is 455 KHz. The first local oscillator signal is supplied from the PLL circuit. The PLL circuit in the transmitter generates the necessary frequencies.

A-80 VHF SERVICE MANUAL The first IF signal is amplified by Q302, and then enters IC300 (FM processing IC). The signal is heterodyned again with a second local oscillator signal within IC300 to create a 455 KHz second IF signal. The second IF signal is then fed through a 455 KHz ceramic filter (CF300) to further eliminate unwanted signals before it is amplified and FM detected in IC300.

The oscillator frequency is controlled by applying the VOC control voltage, obtained form the phase comparator, to the varactor diodes (D102 and D103 in receive mode and D100 and D101 in transmit mode).

A-80 VHF SERVICE MANUAL The automatic power control (APC) circuit stabilizes the transmitter output power at a predetermined level by sensing the drain current of the final amplifier Field effect Transistor (FET). The voltage comparator, IC001 (2/2), compares the voltage obtained from the above drain current with a reference voltage which is set using the microprocessor.
