STEP 4
Remove the acorn nuts from the handle attachment clinch studs at the front of the upper band, install the handle
assembly, reinstall the acorn nuts and securely tighten. Next, remove all of the keps nuts from the hinge assembly attachment
clinch studs on both the upper and lower bands. Next, install the rear hinge assemblies to the bands (please pay close attention
to ILLUSTRATION B the rear hinge assemblies must be installed in the correct left and right positions). Lower rear bracket
(round holes) attached to the lower band, upper rear bracket (slotted holes) attached to the upper band. You may need to
slightly increase or decrease the gap between the upper & lower bands to allow the rear hinge brackets to fit properly. If
needed, loosen and move the upper band only. Install the ¼" keps nuts and hand tighten only. Next, install the side hinge
assemblies, these are both identical assemblies and are not left or right specific. Lower side bracket (round holes) attached to
the lower band. Upper side bracket (slotted holes) attached to the upper band. Install the ¼" keps nuts and hand tighten only.
Look closely at your assembly and make sure it matches ILLUSTRATION B exactly. Tighten the (8) ¼" keps nuts on the
lower band first and finally the (8) on the upper band.
IMPORTANT:
You must check the band bolts and the hinge / band bolts for tightness regularly, especially after each
of the first two or three uses. Failure to follow these instructions may cause the dome to slip out and break; this
will not be covered under warranty. (NEVER TIGHTEN THE BANDS WHEN THE GRILL IS IN USE)
IMPORTANT:
The ceramic material the Big Green Egg is made of is very dense and heavy; carefully open the egg
dome until you familiarize yourself with the feel of the opening and closing cycles. Individuals of a smaller
stature may want to use both hands until you feel comfortable.
Congratulations, you have completed the hinge / band installation. Periodically lubricate the (8) pivot points on the hinge
mechanism with light oil (penetrating lubricants such as WD 40 are not recommended) and it will provide you many years of

▲ Do not lift the egg assembly by the handle or hinge mechanism.
▲ Do not move the egg over rough or uneven surfaces, or by pulling the handle.
▲ Do not place your hands inside the egg until the lid is completely open.
▲ Periodically lubricate the hinge mechanism to insure proper function.
▲ Do not place hands / fingers in the hinge mechanism while operating, pinch points exist.
▲ Do not allow children to play with or operate the egg.
